GAMECOCK TEAM ON NORTHERN TRIP Ten Games Will be Played Before Returning to South Carolina. Those Who Went. The Gamecock crew left Tuesday afternoon on their annual northern trip. The defenders of the Garnet and Black have the following sched ule: Wake Forest, April 10; A. and M., April i i ; Washington and Lee, April 12; V. M. I., April I3; V. P. I., April 15; V. P. I., April 16; E William and Mary, April 17; Ran dolph-Macon, April 18; Woodbury Forest, April 19, and close the tour c. with the University of Virginia on April 20. The University of South Carolina tennis team, composed of' V. \Var ing and \V. Cary, has met with sig nal success on their trip. James Allan, Jr., of Charleston, a member of the Iniph rad ian i Ite rary Society, w~onI the Southern pre liminary held on Wecdnesday even ing in the chapel. Mr. Allan will rep)resenlt Carolina at the Southern contest to be held this year at the University of Alabama. Mr. Allan is a gifted specaker. The Easter German, danced Mon (lay evening, proved to be one of the most enjoyable events of the year. About fifty couples and ten stags were present. After the sixteen card (lances there was gen eral dancing for about an hour. The University orchestra furnished the music and this alone had much to do with the success of the occa sion. The University Glee Club gave a concert at Camden on the evening of the i oth and at Orangeburg o the 12th1. Both audiences were very much pleased with the acting and singing of the gleemen. The trip added another triumph to their al ready long list of "hits." The interest ill missions at Fur man this year has been especially keen. lheir Volunteer Hand has been busy all year in deputation work, holding missionary mncetings in churches and Sunday schools in Greenville and in the surrounding country. On account of two of the spring holidays occurring on Saturday nights the exercise of the literary societies have been moved ip two weeks. In joint assembly meeting last Saturday night a committee was sent to appear before the fac ulty and request that the date of the second holiday be changed to Mon day in order that the societies' work may not be too seriously inter rupted. All work of the University was adjourne(d at i i o'clock on Thurs day, April i i, in order that the stu dents and faculty might atten(l the exercises of the unveiling and pay their tribute to the \Vonen of the Confederacy. Classes met as usual the first two hours, after which the students met at the library and, under the direction of Professor Baker and Professor Coleman, marched directly to the monument. The ceremonies of the unveiling were very impressive and the mem ory will linger long with every one who was present. Preparations Are Being Completed For Commencement. The committee appointed by the Senior class have about completed arrangements for commencement. The gowns, caps and hoods will be ordered as soon as measures are taken. A distinguishing feature of the dress this year will be the hoods worn by the graduates in addition to the usual custom of gowns and caps.
