State Oratorical Contest to Be Held in Rock Hill. The South Carolina Intercollegi ate Oratorical Association contest will be held at Rock Hill on April 26. For years the speaking nas been at Greenwood, but this year the executive committee thought it ad visable to make the change. A. 1I. Williams, Jr., of Lake City, \vill represent the University. Mr. \Villiams represented the University last year, winning second place. Play Bill Clark's -Bunch Today and Again Monday Afternoon. Carolina battles wtih Bill Clark's crew today and again on Monday. The leaguers and Carolina should stage two interesting games. The Columbia league bunch have been practicing now for about 1o days and are fast rounding into shape. Carolina's crew are going fine now and it is probable that the fans of Columbia will turn out in great numbers to see the Gamecocks and Comers battle. Dance Easter German on Evening of April 8. The German Club will give their Easter German on Moinday, April 8. The club is making elaborate prep arations and the affair promises to be one of the most enjoyable of the entire season. About 30 or 40 couples will be present and qjuite a number of visiting members and young ladies from distant cities are expected. Civic Club Met Last Thursday Evening. The meeting of the Civic club at 7:30 Thursday night was a most imnportaint one. L. K. Jennings spoke on "Localism" and 1). A. Ilrockinton on "\V. R. l-Iearst." Each of these gentlemen gave good talks. )r. Josiah lMorse was pres ent and na(le some very suggestive remarks. The (iscUssions were live and interesting throughout the meeting. Holiday On April 11th for Monu ment Unveiling. The students and faculty will cel ebrate April i ith as one of the hol idays, which were moved forward in order that the baseball team may have ten (lays for tIle northern trip, and all w~ill attend the unveiling of the monument to the WVomen of the Confederacy. Every One is looking forwvard to the exercises wvith much p)leasure. H-on. Jos. \V. B3arnwell, who is to be the sp)eaker, is one of the most enthusiastic almuni o f the university and is wvell kniown in all p)arts of the State. Many students from other col leges arc planning to attendl. Win throp, Coker, College for WVomen, and possibly Lander, wvill be there wvith their entire student bodies. Clemson andl Citadel are each to send( one company, andl no doubt a number of other colleges will be representerd by larg-e deleg-ntions. Lecture by Prof. Chamberlayne Next Thursday Night. The next of the series of popular lectures of the University Extension Course will be delivered by Prof. L. P. Chamberlayne on the evening of April 4th, his subject being: "Ro man Architecture." Prof. - Cham berlayne has spent much time in Italy, and his lecture will doubtless attract a rather large audience. According to statistics gotten up by the Yale News, the high cost of living has not affected the cost of an education at that institution. The total cost of four years in 1893 was $4,372, and in 1912, $4,472. Exchange. A baseball team, composed of men from Chinese universities, will tour America this spring, playing schools in both the East and West. Their first game will be with the Univer sity of California in the latter part of this month.-Exchange. The University of Wisconsin has recently received from the \Viscon sin legislature an appropriation of $150,000. ''his is to be used for building a woman's dormitory. Exchange.
