C. UNIVERSITY TEAM LEFT HERE YESTERDAY Ashton H. Williams Went Along as Manager of the Garnet and Black - Representatives. Tonight at eight o'clock Trinity College and the University of South Carolina will meet in a debating contest at Durham, North Caro lina. Ashton H. Williams, the manager of the team, left yester day for Durham. He and the manager of the Trinity team have made all preparations for the con test tonight. The Trinity speakers are: E. J. Londow, W. A. Cade and H. M. Ratcliff, with T. Z. B. Everton as alternate. Alan Johnstone, Jr., H. G. Goggans and E. P. Guerard, with F. \V. Cappelmann as alter nate, will represent the University of South Carolina. Trinity will uphold the affirmative side of the question, while Carolina will argue the negative. "Dear Old College Days" have their many, many charms-and wlhen six or seven hundred "charms,'' costumed in immaculate blue and white-in fact, Rock Hill's chiefest charms appeared at the reception given the University boys last week by Dr. Johnson of 'in throp-why, to be sure, the said University boys felt that the real color of joy was blue-and-white-a glorious sky-blue, not the murky indigo of certain "blue Mondays" with lessons unprepared, (and head aches un-repaired) after the holi day! Oh, no! Do the University boys-those who went to Rock Hill last week believe in the higher education of women ? Well-may be they don't. It is their instinctive opinion that girls-such girls as those in the said blue and white-do not need any education-that they are, in fact, perfect; but, of course, if they are in need of education, it would necessarily be of the "higher" vari ety-such exalted impressions did the fortunate University lads re ceive concerning the Winthrop las sies. Another idea beats its small wings against the rock-ribbed shore of the student mind: namely-that these "Perfectos"-meaning the Winthrop girls-are extra fine col lege girls. Explain ? Why-that this call is made, something, perhaps not in the student mind, responds that these girls of the said blue and white are seeking the right kind of education. In truth, the education that concerns matters of comfort and condolence of to groping and obtuse masculinity. For they can "make a cherry pie," and they can "sew a long white seam-can these merry maids in blue and white. And, with all, can they take on a high and mighty air, discoursing upon deep and serious subjects. Likewise, raising most pleasingly their dulcet voices, do their inspire with rippling music the hearts of their hearers. Yes; all in white came the min strel maids-ministering most gra ciously and gracefully to the amuse ment of the visiting University men. Such laughter, such wit, such gor geousness of song and story were strewvn wvith such gleefulness-till the said men wvere amazed, and "sadly thought" of their leaving. And, all through the (lays and the weeks they wvill recall. vividly and with longing, those happy hours sp)ent at WVinthrop. Y. M. C. A. Mission Conference Dis cussed at Flinn Hall. The Y. M. C. A. representatives to the mission conference at Due WVest addressed the students at Flinn Hall on Wednesday night. They report quite an interesting and profitable conference, together wvith the hospitality showvn them, wvhich made the trip most nI)ensant.
