Students who attended chapel Thursday morning were accorded a treat in the sparkling address of Dr. Caspar Rene Gregory, professor of theology at the University of Leip sic in Germany, here in Columbia giving a series under the Smythe Foundation of lectures. The distinguished American, pro fessor at this noble German institu tion, centered his talk upon the les son drawn from the German Uni versity custom of applying the term, "commilites," to students and professors. The thought that students were fellow-fighters all and the faculty so as well was pleas ingly elaborated. Co-operation and obedience were the duties impressed upon the student body. Personally Dr. Gregory is inter esting and friendly. Carolina men were attracted by his geniality in particular. A college rifle squad was recently organized at the University of Kan sas.-Exchange. MOOT COURT. At the regular session of the Moot Court Wednesday night, R. M. Green, plaintiff, brought an ac tion against the Broom Furniture Co., defendant, for $5,000, the cause of the complaint being that the defendant, through its agent, had caused the plaintiff to be unlaw fully imprisoned. The plaintiff was represented by Attorneys Monash and Busbee, J. C., while the defendant was repre sented by attorneys Shuler and Mc Intyre. These gentlemen conducted their case in a most creditable man ner, both as to the testimony and their argumelitG to the jury. After an able charge by Prof. Frierson, acting judge, the jury returned a verdict for the defendant. The Moot Court is progressing nicely, as evidenced by the interest of the individual members. The case next Wednesday night is a criminal one and bids fair to be very interesting, as shrewd lawyers are to represent the prosecution and defense. A full attendance is urged, espe cially as a matter which bears great ly on the success of the Moot Court is to be discussed. CLARIOSOPHIC SOCIETY. The regular order of literary ex ercises which will be carried out next Saturday night in the Clario sophic Society will be as follows: Reader, Harmon; declaimers, Poole and Horger; orators, Shuler and Bradley, E.
