No less interesting than the great game of basket ball in the gymna sium Friday night was the short dance which followed and which was participated in by many young ladies of the city and more young men of the University. The music was furnished by the University Orchestra, which (istinguished itself here no less than in its other appear ances this season. Particularly pleasing was the readivess of the musicians to encore wlen requested and to play longer than the limit set for closing. BASKET BALL GAME WAS EXCITING Carolina and Newberry Played a Hard-Fought Game Last Friday Resulting in a Victory for the Visitors When Noah Webster made his dictionary and 'defined the word "exciting" as "stirring," "lively," "rousing," etc., but if he could have lived a few years longer and wit nessed the basket ball ganie at the gymnasium last Friday night he would undoubtedly have had to change his meaning to something like this, "nerve-wrecking," "heart upsetting," or something of that character. Hard-fighting, cool head work, swiftncss on the part of the Carolina squad were the features of the game, but that old hard luck SNOW 11.1rijL Universit, t(jents Met tile (; Last .Saturda.y Afticrnmon onl ill GrounIs. THE UNIVERSITY'S ORCHESTRA "Isadoroh Solomonus Monosky's Rag Time Band."-Best Orches tra that Carolina Has Had for Many Years. "Music hath its charms." It makes a strong appeal to one's im pulses of loyalty, patriotisn, love. and the warlike spirit of man. No where else does it make a stronger appeal than to college men. A lively college somig vilrates every fibre of a student ; causes him to realize mo10re his love and devotion for his college. Next to the college song is a college orchestra. The music of a college orchestra stirs up within the Stu dents, more than any other could. the veneration, devotion :nd college spirit. Photo. by Ilanchard. E , AT O.F.
