Cashier LAW BUILDING COMMITTEE BEGINS WORK ANEW This Committee is to Put Propo sition Squarely Before Alumni of This Institution. The members of the Law School, fresh from an active campaign in their home cities and communities during the Christmas vacation, are laying plans for effective strides during the next few weeks towards the realization of their splefidid project of erecting the $4o,ooo Law Building on the campus. The work during the holidays, though re stricted by the activities of the holi clay season, by the many cares of the passage from an old year into a new one, and by the illness during the holidays of students who were to work in important districts, yet, in spite of these opposing facts, registered constructive and encour aging advance. The first task that awaits the Law Building committee. is the placing of the proposition squarely bcfore the Alumni Association of the Uni versity at its meeting here Thurs day. The sons of Carolina will be asked to take up this matter so important to the proper growth and development of this institution. The Bar Association of the State will also be memorialized by this committee at its meeting here this month. Several announcements of great interest to the University and to the State at large are expected to be made by the committee within the next few weeks. The members of the committee are sanguine as to the undertaking and through the present status of affairs are urged to strive more industriously than ever for the fruition of this plan. C. F. W. Well, we're back at the same old place, doing the same old things, and there is no help in us, appar ently. Not that we mean to speak disparagingly of our alma mater. By no means. But there is a certain feeling of helplessness that well nigh gets the better of us when we stand at this end of the road that leads to Easter--or shall wve say June-and stare at the endless chain of monotonous duties that awaits us. The thought is not particularly pre possessing. We can only hope that the satisfaction which comes from the knowvledlge of work wvell done wvill be strong enough to sustain us. There are sonme doubts about that. Christmas has come and gone as a dream and wve are left to pursue the even tenor of our ways. The only consolation we have is that tho' its presence has gone, the p)resents stay by us, andl help to bring back the dream into reality again. The holiday season was undoubtedly a "joy .forever" to all of us, for so far every girl has declared that she "never had so much fun in all her life," and judging from our own experience, we credit that statement without hesitation. We are only sorry that it is over so quickly. We are not sufficiently settled in our regular routines yet for any thing to "happen," consequently we are greatly indebted to Carolina for offering us the opportunity to hear such a delightful lecture as was given in the University chapel on Friday evening last. That opportu nity was eagerly taken advantage of, and nearly every C. F. W. girl attended the lecture. We all en joyed it heartily. We are looking forward with a great deal of enthusiasm to seeing Blanche Bates, Billie Burk and other attractions at the theatre this season. This seems to be one of the most interesting features of Columbia life, and we surely make the most of it. A. G. McC. MOOT COURT * The moot court for this week was held on Tuesday night, so as not to conflict with the oratorical contest on Wednesday night, as some of the members of the Law Association were in the contest, and the other members were eager to attend this important feature of college life. The case of the Central National Bank vs. D. E. Ferndorf was ably argued by Messrs. Gaston and Gog gans for the plaintiff, and Messrs. Alexander and Johnstone for the defendant. The jury, after remain ing out for a short while, returned a verdict for the plaintiff--$2,ooo, being the value of the notes in con troversy. His Honor, Justice Cordie Page, presided with much grace and dig nity, and made a very able charge to the jury. It is gratifying to note the inter est taken in the work of the Law Association. A criminal case is docketed for next Wednesday night, and the *stdents as a whole and friends of the University are in vited to attend. Mrs. M. W. Twitchell Presented With Gift by Orchestra Appreciating the efforts of Mrs. M. \V. Twitchell to further the interests of the University orches tra, the thiembers of the orchestra presented her with a handsome cut glass jardiniere before leaving for the Christmas holidays. Mrs. Twvitchell has been a potent factor in the orchestra's splendid develop nment this year. Fresh Weinberg has not been able to meet his classes for the past few dlays.
