Cashie ARRANGE DEBATE WITH TWO COLLEGES Carolina Will Contest With Davidson and Trinity--The Articles of Agreement Drawn Up. The representatives of the debat ing council from Davidson, Trinity and Carolina met in Durham last Tuesday. These representatives drew up contracts and constitutions for the contests between these ins.ti tutions. Carolina will meet 'Trinity at Durham on the second Saturday night in March, 1912, and will meet Davidson at Chester on March the 4th. Professor L. T. Baker and A. H. WVillianis represented Caro lina at this meeting. These are the first contests of this kind that Carolina has entered for this line of work are urged to enter the preliminary here. This prelim inary will be held on February 15th, 1912. The contract with Trinity is as follows: Section i. There shall be one de bate between Davidson and Caro lina. Sec. 2. One institution shall pro pose the query and the other the names of fifteen men in no way con nected with the contesting institu tions, from w1hich list eight men shall be selected from the first insti tution and sent back to the second to be invited in the order in which they are arranged, to act as judges. Sec. 3. Davidson shall submit the question and Carolina shall choose the side. Sec. 4. The judges shall render stated verdicts without consultation. Sec. 5. Any student carrying full work shall be elegible for the debate, providedl he is not carrying post graduate work. No student having taken a degree or who has received pay for public speaking shall be eligible for the debate. Sec. 6. Tlhere shall be three representatives from each college composing the team. Sec. 7. Each institution shall be allowed sixty minutes to be tsed as it sees fit, and no side shall consume more than fifteen minutes in re joinder. Sec. 8. The side opening the dle bate shall close it. Sec. 9. Each institution shall de fray one-half of the expenses of the debate. Sec. 10. If the terms of the ques tion are ambiguous, the two parties shall agree on interpretation before the debate. Sec. 11i. The debate shall be held on March 4th, 1912. Sec. 12. The question shall be submitted Dec. 15th, 1911. Sec. 13. The side to whom the question is submitted shall render decision within ~five clays after re ceiving- said question. Sec. 14. Neither college- shall sub mit a question that has been pre viously used by either college inl an inter-collegiate debate within two years from time of submitting query. Sec. 15. The debate shall be held in Chester. Sec. 16. The presiding oflicer shall be a student wlio shall come from a friendly institution, the in stitution to be selected later. Sec. 17. The schools from which each man graduated who is proposed as judge and his profession and his political affiliations, if ascertainable, shall be given. Sec. i8. The number of judges shall be three. The contest with Davidsoi is the same with the exceptions of sections 2, 7, 11, 15, 16 and 17. In section 2, fifteen mcii are proposed and eight selected. Section 7, each side is allowed sixty minutes to be used as they see fit and not over fifteen minutes for rejoinder. Section I I, debate shall be held March 4th. Sec tion 15, debate will be held in Ches ter. No sections sixteen aid seven teen. CAMPUSGRAMS:2 Jim Wideman, law class of 'ii and captain of the baseball team last year, was in the city for several days this week on business. J. Oliver Havird, former left fielder on the University team, spent several days in the city this week on busilness. J. Dantzler, class of 'ii, was on the campus last Tuesday and Ved nesday. Dantzler has been doing engineering work in Marion County under the supervision of Prof. Homes. Ile will be engaged in some work in Fairfield county for a few inonths. Archie Richardson, a former stu (lent of law depairtmnent here, was in the city a few\ days last week. le is doing newspaper wvork in Spartan burg. W. M. Graydon has returned to the campus after a fewx days of ill niess at his home. Joe Phinny made a short visit to his home at Clinton last week. Nat Kennedy is speniding a few days at his home this week. H-effron has returned after a short stay in Charleston. Professor L. T. Baker and A. H-.
