the People-The Program.
Until very recently universities
throughout the couitry required
people to come to them for the bene
fits they offered, but more and more
the universities are going to the peo
ple. The Ulniversity of South Caro
Hina desires to do its part, as a part
of the public school system of the
State, in advancing the interests of
its schools and in furthering tile
intellectual growth of its people. To
that end, an(d ill response to tile
widespread deiand for the advant
ages of higher education outside of
the colleges, the following general
lectures arc offered.
The purpose of the Ullivelsity
Extension Work is to promote the
fullest intellectual life of all the cit
izens of the comm1onwealth, and to
reiniforce moral causes that have to
do with the welfare of ou- State.
The University seeks to broaden the
horizon of those who have not had
the advantages of a college educa
tion, alld to afford an opportullity
for those vho have attenlded college
to keep in touch with academic
thought along their favorite lines.
While the professors of the Uni
versity ask no compensation in seek
ing to promote by such lectures the
educational and cultural interests of
the commulities, it is expected that
the colillullities will hear the travel
ing expenses. Schools. organiza
tions, communities and individuals
interested are requested to address
the particular professors whose lec
tures are desired.
