CAMPUSGRAMS. The track bunch has returned from the Clemson expedition, which resulted mainly in a trip. But the fellows had a good tim'e; the experi ence was novel and while at Clein son the team lived in a world differ ent from that at Carolina. We do not mean the score was novel, but the barracks life. * * * Dr. Twitchell has acoer red- the ap pointment as State Geo' -gist. He announced his decision 'tuesday. 6 This is at once an honor to )r. li 'Twitchell and a proper and natural thing, Dr. Twitchell being Professor of Geology at the State University. The high school men were made to feel at home on the campus Satur day and Sunday. They are a promis ing lot, and made many friendships among Carolina men. We hope to have many of them permanently on the campus when they comne to go to college. * * * The Shandon dances are this year to be given in tihe gym. They are four-May 5, 8, 15, 22. These li.ftle informal hops form a large pant of the spring fun for the campus, and signs are that they will be well at tended. * * * The Greenwood occasions were delig'htful to all the Carolina men that went up for the games, the con test and the dance. It is said that the two-steps at the hop were par ticularly vivacious. * * * Mr. T. F. [ide continues in his adoration of the fountain--it has been overhauled in his behalf and the out of commission nozzles pet into operation, to the joy of the rest of us, formerly precluded from the water by Lide's adherence to the one stream going. That the L,aw School is increasing in efficiency and influ-ence is, shown by the earnest interest of its mem bers in the progress of the work. At the last meeting of the Law Asso ciation a committee was appointed to confer with the law faculty as to the need of having a compulsory moot court. This presages well for the future. With this improvement, with a more creditable library, with a -larger mlemb)ership, andl with a course covering three years, the Lawv School, already endowed with an ab)le faculty and industrious student body, will step) into its right p)lace as a leader in legal influence in the South. Alan Johnstone brought honor to himself and his college when he won second place in the Southern Inter collegiate Oratorical contest held last Wednesday evening at the Uni versity of Virginia. A. M. Freeman, of Vanderbilt, took first honors in -the contest, but Johnstone pushed him close for the 1)lace. The other institutions relresenited were University of Alabama, Tran sylvania and University of Virginia, the contest being held in Cabell Hall at Charlottesville. At the conclusion of the )ro gramme the presiding officer (Dr. Albert Lefevre of the University of Virginia), judges and contestants %Vere tendered a dinner by the Delta. Sigma Rho fraternity. Johnstone's speech, "The l1rother to the Ox," wheii deliveredl here, brought. forth much favorable criti cism, and we knew our institution would be well represet.ited in the great event.
