SOCIETY NOTES. 'Ihose members of the soci-eties who were present at the meetings Saturday night were treated with a slight but very pleasant variance from the regular programmes of the evening, which was due to the pres ence of several visitors. On account of the State Teachers' meeting many alumni w\,ere in the city, som.e remainiig here until Sunday. Those among them who were society members took the op portunity of coming up to the halls, thus showing their appreciation of society work. Several short biut in teresting and inspiring talks were C heard. All emplasized the impor tance of society work, w%hich fact they have realized more fully since they have left college and started life's battl,es. Those men, as tley, review their coll,ege days, remember more pleasantly and see that they -3 derived more benefit from their society work than from any other phase of college life. At a joint meeting l. N. Carns was elected presiding officer and ;. A. White chief marshal of the pre liniinary to the Southern oratorical contest to be held in chapel the 26th of April. The assistant marshals are: Clariosophic, Tuten and \Vil liams ; Euphradian, Moise, Stoney, A. B. With a view to facilitating the transaction of all matters necessita ting now a joint meeting of the two societies, Messrs. Mitchell, Bradley, R. E.,Offlicer, 11. G., Brockington and Johnstone were appointed on a com mittee to devise some new plan. The Clariosophic intra-society contest, which was to be held the first Friday in April. has been changed to April 14th. The programmes of our next meetings, Saturday, April I, are: Clariosophic. J. lethea will address the University of South Carolina at the assembly hour on Monday, April 10. \Mr. llethea's subject will be "T'he College Man's Value to Society." Mr. Bethea last year gave an address upon his trip to the Alaska-Yukon Exposition, which charmed all of his auditors. lie is an alumnus of the University of South Carolina. having done the work of his Mas ter's Degree while he was acting as the secretary of (ov. M. F. Ansel. Mr. iethea has identified himself with the constructive forces of Co lumbia. Ile will meet with an en thusiastic reception by the students and faculty of the University. The Carolina Glee Club has been reorganized and is now on a fine footing. Thorough practice is being held regularly and all other efforts made to make a showing creditable to the past record of this organiza tion. Most interesting is the an nouncement that a trip is virtually assured to Sumter, Charleston and other points, while other plans are being discussed.
