LE CONTE COLLEGE IS NAME SELECTED. MAGNIFICENT NEW $40,000 SCIENCE HALL TO BE DEDI CATED THIS AFTERNOON. Named in Honor of Dr. Joseph Le Conte, an Eminent Scientist, for Years a Professor in the Univer sity-Dedication Ceremonies in Chapel at Three-thirty. This afternoon at 3:30 o'clock the dedication of the new Science Hall will take place in the chapel. At a recent meeting of the board of trustees, LeConte College was the name chosen for the new Science Hall, being named in honor of Joseph LeConte, the eminent scientist, who was a professor for twelve years at the South Carolina College. There are so many illustrious names connected with the University that it was no easy task for the trustees to make the selection of a name, but in our opinion, they made a most excel lent choice. The exercises connected with the formal opening will not be elaborate. In the afternoon, Prof. William K. Tate will make an address oil "The Enrichment of Rural Life in South Carolina," and Dr. S. A. Knapp will address the audience on "Application of Science to Agriculture and Indus tries." lloth of these addresses will be given in the chapel. In the even ing, Prof. W. H. Hand and Dr. Walter 1-1. (Continued from Page One.) a new one. It is planned to have a building large eough to contain four class rooms in addition to the chapel proper. Two of these class rooms for the law department and two for the department of education. Hlaving these class rooms in the chapel build ing means that the space now occupied by these class fooms can be converted into sleeping quarters, and with the pace now use( as the chapel, the whole will accommodate fifty more men. Thus we would have room enough to meet the demiand of the number of students, while now, every year, students have to be refused ad mittance because of lack of sleeping apartments. The board of trustees, in their an nual report to the Legislature, will urge upon thlat body the importance of making appropriations for the building of such a chapel. The stu dent body is directing its efforts in that direction. Men from every county are writing letters to their representa tives in the General Assembly asking them to visit the campus and see the present condition of the chapel. By concerted action, it is hoped that a new chapel wvill be secured.
