Local News Pioked Up Around the
Campus.
We are glad to welcome Dr. Mitch
ell back to the campus after his sev
eral days' absence. While away from
the campus he preached the baccalau
reate sermon at the'Baptist Seminary,
Louisville, Ky. On his way home he
also stopped at Davidson College and
delivered the address before the grad
uating class.
Dr. Burney has recently been away
from the campus on a visit to his
farm in western North Carolina.
We are all very sorry that Dean A.
C. Moore 'was forced to leave us be
fore commencement. We regret that
he will not be \vith us, but wish him
an enjoyable vacation in Europe.
Profs. Keith and Bradley left sev
eral days ago to spend the summer in
Europe. Prof. Bradley will continue
to study in Europe during the session
of 1910-'11.
Mr. U. G. DesPortes returned to
the campus for 'a short wnile on the
29th. Mr. DesPortes is captain of
the 1910 football team and he was
busy answering questions as to the
prospects for a successful season.
We are glad to report that Mr.
Mace is able to be out again after his
recent sickness.

We regret to say that Mr. T. V.
Bouchier is sick, and we hope lie will
soon be up again.
Mr. .. C. Ritter spent most of the
first week of exams in the infirmary
with a sore foot. We are glad to say,
however, that Mr. Ritter's sickness
will not affect his graduation, as lie is
now up in time to stand his exams.

Powhatan County, Virginia, July 6,
1865. His father was a banker of no
inconsiderable means, and thus gave
him a liberal training along educa
tional lines. He was educated at Rich
mond and in the University of Vir
ginia, graduating in '85. Ever since
'86 he has been a member of the firm
of John L. Williams and Sons. He
was organizer and first president of
the Seabord Air Line, Georgia and
Florida Railway systems, and the bank
of Richmond, besides being officer and
director of various other banks, rail
roads and trust companies.
Not only is Mr. Williams a well
known capitalist, but he is a forceful
speaker. Thus we congratulate our
selves upon having selected a man who
is acquainted with the practical side
of life, who knows how to instruct
young lien along the lines which they
are Soon' to take up. And we feel
safe in skying that our brothers in
black, togk'her with all who attend
the exercise\ will not be disappointed
in expecting '\veighty and a very help
