SOCIAL NOTES. On Friday night the fourth of the series of subscription dances being given at Shandon by the University German Club, was held. The weather was just cool enough to make dancing thoroughly enjoyable and an enthusi astic crowd was out to enjoy the pleas ures of the occasion. Among the fair fems who were present, may be men tined the following: Misses DuBose Jones, Nan Walker, Louisa Duncan, of Union; Katie Graham Thompson, Elise Izlar, Ellen Hyatt, Raven Sim kins, Beverly DuBose, Mary Wells, and Dora Gray. In addition the usual number of men from the University and from town were present. SATURDAY NiGirr DANCE. On April 30th was held one of the most delightful dances ever given at the Shandon pavilion. A large num ber of dancers were out to enjoy the occasion, and* dancing was in order until a few minutes of twelve, when time was called and the dance came to an end. Davis' orchestra furnished the music, which was most inspiring. The dance was chaperoned by Mrs. Joseph K. Alston, Miss Mamie Walker Mrs. Berkeley Bryan, Mrs. 0. E. Thomas and Mrs. Woodrow. An un usually large number of dancers were present and included nearly all the mem!bers of the younger dancing set. THI VrFESTIVAL. Prominent in the social life of the University during the past week was the Music Festival held at the Colum bia Theatre on Wednesday and Thurs day nights. A number of very cele brated artists took part in the program and a great many students took advan tage of this opportunity of hearing them. Quite a number of men from the University were in the chorus, and did good work toward making that part of the festival a success. * * * An event which is being eagerly looked forward to, is the performance by students of the College for Women of "Twelfth Night" in the beautiful gardens of the college. This perform ance takes place during the commence ment of the college the latter part of this month, and is always an occasion of absorbing interest to the students of the University. * * * CoMMENCEMENT, WEEK. As is noted elsewhere in this issue, plans for commencement week include a very full week socially. Besides the Junior..Senior smoker on Saturday night, there will be a large subscription dance at the Shandon pavilion on Fri day night, another on Monday night, and still another on Tresday night. There are always a number of. smaller affairs planned for the week and the climax will come to commencement with the June ball on Wednesday night. The executive committee of the German Club plans that this always brilliant dance shall be the best ever given by the club, and already plans ned on foot towards that end. Commencement Invitations. An advarkoe 1,pample of the com mencement invitations has been re ceived, and gives every indication that they will be among the most attractive ever had at Carolina. The invitations are to be in booklet form, with a photo graph of the Library, tinted in colors on the cover, where is also to be found the seal of the Uni versity, and the words, "South Carolina - Commencement." Inside, the invitation sheet is engraved and on the remaining four sheets will be printed the programme for commence ment and the list of graduates both the law and academic. The invitations are being gotten out by the E. A. Wright Co., of Philadelphia, and will be on the campus in about two weeks. The price of the invitations will be two for twenty-five cents. Junior-Senior Festivity. As the commencement season, with all its festivities, draws near, the col lege men begin to plan and arrange for a week of pleasure. The Junior Class is "on the job," so to speak. They are following the time honoured custom entertaining the Sen iors. While nothing is as yet defi nitely arranged, it is generally known and is whispered around the campus that the joyous event will take place on Saturday, June 4th. Quite a departure from the ordinary custom will be a smoker instead of a banquet. On account of the smallness of the Junior Class it is impossible for them to tender the Seniors a banquet, so a smoker will be the order of the day. A Great Game. Slightly over a week ago, the cam pus lovers of sport were given a rare treat. The occasion was the meeting of the Monte Carlo and East Rutledge nines. The battle was a protracted one, the palm finally going to the Monte Carlo veterans, 13 to 9. The game was called at the end of the ninth inning to allow the Monte Carlo team to catch a tran for North Caro lina, where an extended tour has been arranged by Manager Lee. Very Felts-itous. Felis sedit by a hole, Tntente she, cum omni soul, Predere rats. Mice concurrerunt trans the floor, In numero duo, tres or more Obliti cats.
