Mr. John Hoey has withdrawn from
college and left the early part of the
week for his home at Long Branch,
N. J. Mr. Hoey will be much missed
by his friends on the campus and in
many phases of college life. He did
more, possibly, than any other one
man, to foster college-spirit at Caro
lina, and for this alone the students
will always owe him a debt of grati
tude. Mr. Hoey's many friends hope
that he will visit the campus in the
near future.

the occasion of Field Day for the

I held his audience intensely interested
for almost an hour.
At St. Matthews, on the same day,
was held an athletic meet of which
C/ Instructor Schofield, of this Univer

"Where is my Sophomore son tonight,
The child of our tears and fuss?
)oes he mathematize on the flight of
light,
Or work at Theocritus?"
"Nay, lady, he's talkn' of next year'

Or watching 'em basket-ball;
Or calling an(l chatting with Peaches
and Cream;
Or smoking a pipe,-that's all;
"Or hazing a Freshman to make him
grow;
Or fighting some likely pups;
Or raising a row with a rotten show;
Or running for loving cups;
"And maybe lhe's writing the Sopho
more p)lay;
Or stealing thme chapel chimes;
But, lady, you bank on it anywvay,
That lhe's having his Time of
Times."

They seem to take their ease,
For even when they graduate,
They do it by degrees. -Exy.

Hey, Diddle, Diddle,
The Sphinx and the Riddle,
The lion jumped over the moon;
The whole world was stirred
At a dollar a word,
And our Teddy is ccming home soon.
There was a young lady named
Banker,,
Who slept while the ship was at an
chor.
She awoke in dismay,
For she heard the mate say,
Now hoist the top sheet and spanker.
