On last Sunday afternoon the meet
ing was presided over by Mr. E. N.
Carns. The speaker was Rev. E. A.
Holler, pastor of Green Street Meth
o(list church. This was the first time
the association has had the privilege of
hearing Mr. Holler. His first mess
age to us was, "Be Strong and Cour
ageous." In discussing this subject
the speaker showed how, in the past,
stress had beei laid on physical
strength for its own sake, oratorical
power, and logical argument. All of
these are good yet, but the essential
thing needed at present is moral
strength and faith in God. A greater
value is put upon this kind of strength
than on any other. It takes the great
est real courage to develop moral and
religious strength. Frequently the one
who is struggling for these higher vir
tues gets not even an encouraging
word much less the cheer and support
of those around him. Some of the
grandest victories ever won have been
within the human soul. The speaker
closed his address by saying that the
only way to gain this moral force of
character is through a continual study
of the Bible. Judging from the atten
tion every one gave the speaker, his
words will result in much good.
A business meeting was called by
the president, Mr. E. N. Carns, and
the officers for the present term were
elected. The result of the election is
as follows: Mr. P. L. Wright, presi

H. F. Latshaw, treasurer; Mr. J. P.

Fellows, we believe these men will
put time and thought into this work.
It is simply up to every member of the
Y. M. C. A. to help them make the
work of the association go. What
could add more to the life of our insti
tution and to the life of each individual
than a united effort in supporing this
work? It is certainly worth while.
Then, why not do your part?

An hour later, in the Senate, the statue
will be formally turned over to the U.
S. Government, and a number of
speeches made, notably one by Senator
Ienry Cabot Lodge, of Massachu
setts. Senator Lodge is a historian of
some note, and what he says of Cal
houn will be read with a great deal of
interest.
