Mr. A. Woods Dargan, '09, after
completing a course at Eastman
.Business CollegV, is in town for
a few -days, before taking up his
duties as court stenographer of the
Fourth Judicial Circuit.
Mr. B. Jennings White, 'og, has
gone to Marion to become Private
Secretary to Associate justice
Woods.
Mr. Vernon Cook, '07, vho for the
past two years has been teaching in
the Hyatt Park School, near this
city, has accepted a position in the
Charleston High School, where he is
to fill the chair of Latin.
Mr. U. G. DesPortes, Jr., has left
college for the remainder of the ses
sion. He passed through Columbia
yesterday on his way to Tampa,
Fla., where he is to visit friends for
several weeks.
Mr. J. Pollard Kirven, who en
tered the University with the class
of 1911, but who withdrew later to
attend the law school of Wake For
est College, has again entered col
lege, this time in the law dlepart
ment.
A number of students having con
pleted their examinations on Friday,
enjoyed the remainder of the week at
home, returning t9 the University
Monday morning.
Messrs. W. C. McGowan and T.
P. Lee spent the week end at their
homes in Charleston.
Messrs. T. P. Stoney and F. G.
Cain, both enjoyed a part of the
week at Pinopolis, near Charleston.

Mr. Dwight Hughes enjoyed a de
lightful (luck hunt as the guest of
friends at the Otranto Hunt Club,
near the City by the Sea.

at his home in Sumter, the past

Mr. Boggan C. Tripplett, having
purchased a new Chalmers-Detroit,
drove home in it last week and re
maiied at Boykins until Monday
morning, when he returned to re
sume his studies.
Mr. Julius Boggs was among
those to enjoy a few days at his
home in Pickens after finishing his
examinations. .
Messrs. Edward Finley, Frank
Spigener, 11alcott Poag and 11. I.
Thomas enjoyed a short visit to
Rock Hill this week, where they
were the guests of Mr. Poag.
There are a number of new stu
dents enrolled for the second term,
among whom are Mr. J. P. Kirven,
Mr. C. B. Hanna and Mr. XV. M.
Perry.
Our National Resources.
The lecture by Dean A. C. Moore
in the chapel, Thursday night, Feb
ruary roth, was a continuation of his
speech of the previous week upon
"The Forests of Our Country." Dr.
Moore's knowledge of this subject
is most extensive, and his remarks
upon the conservation of our na
tional resources were of great inter
est to the large and appreciative
audience assembled to hear him.
Prof. Colcock: "What is the mat
ter, can't work that example? Why,
when George Washington was your
age he was surveying for the United
States government."
Prep. Bowman: "And when he
was your age he was President of
the United States."
