As a mill man, Mr ' Beaty has been remarkably successful, 1 and he goes to Clemson thoroughly i equipped in every respect for his work 1 ?- - J mere, tie is 10 oe cougraiuiaicu vu his good fortune, and the Clemsou 1 trustees are to be congratulated on the good judgment displayed in their selec- > tion of a man for the chair of textile 1 art. i DEATH OF JCDE ROBIXSON*. 1 A telegram was received in Winns- ( boro Wednesday announcing the death of Mr. Jade Robinson at the home of , his father in Orangeburg County. Mr. Robinson was a nephew of Sheriff Ellison. He was at the time of his death in the employ of the Bell Tele* phone Company, serving the company as a special agent, and was regarded as a particularly efficient and conscientious yonng man. He was engaged for some time in improving the Greenville telephone exchange, and the News of that city has the following to say of him' He was a warm-hearted, affable, genial gentleman of a bright, snnnv disposition, whom it was a pleasare to : know and associate with. The news of his death will be received with sincere regret wherever he was known. j An energetic, zealons and conscientious employee, the company loses in his death one of its most valuable and i valued men. Mr. Robinson's death occurred at his home in Iioseville, Orangeburg County. A wife and two children 1 survive him. AOW LEWIS MINOlt COLEMAN' DIED. The following extract from Mr. U. B. Brocks' address may be of interest to many Fairfield people. Mr. .orooKS sam: "Comrades, has any oue told you how Lewis Minor Coleman died, a gallant young officer who raceived his mortal wound at Fredericksburg? For more thau three months his suffering seemed to be all tbat auv mortal could possiblv bear. Yet ir was endured with tbe utmost patience and resignation. When convinced that there was no hope of recovery, he was more than patient; he was happy; he was jubilant. He said to friends waeping at his bedside: 'Tell Gen. Lse and G?n. Jackson they know how Christian soldiers can fight, bnt I wish they could be here that ihev misrht see how | one of them can die.' When his sinking pulse indicated the speedy lermi nation of his snfferiug, bis brother bent over him, and said: 'Lewis, yon are dying.' His response was: 'Come, Lord Jesus, oh, come quickly.' A *reat deal of interest was manifested in the race between Richmoud and Moore because it was known that if either was nominated only two or three votes would be between them. According to the returns received at the bulletin board, after the regiment yote came in, Richmond was two ahead. Ic was evident, however, that an actual count of baiiots and a close examination of the ballot? and poll lists would be required to settle the result. Died In Baltimore on Saturday Morning and Buried Here Sunday. The very sad news of the death of Mr. R. E. Ellison, Jr., was raceived Siere through a telegram announcing ha* hp had af. Johns HoDkinS Hospital, Baltimore, on Saturday morning at 2 o'clock. Mr. Ellison had been in bad health for several months. A.bout three weeks ago he was advised by his attending physicians to go to Baltimore for treatment. His family md friends knew of the seriousness of bis disease, an anuerism, and that a most delicate and dangerous operation would be performed, but. tbe opera tion over, the news of his wonderful fortitude and his own hopefulne3s in 3pite of rhe most intense suffering, inspired hope of his ultimate recoyerv. rhe surgeons during the last two or three days of his illness could find no promise of hope, and the end to his snfier^ng came as stated. Mrs. 11. sE. Ellison, his mother, accompanied him to Baltimore and was with her son until the end. The fo lowing were the pall-bearers: A. G. '.Douglas?, W. 0. Fienniken, E. C- Catbcart aud J. G. McCreery, of Columbia; J. W. Hanahan, W. R. Elliott and J. L. Baaty, of Vvinnsboro. Quite a numoer of friends of the deceased from Columbia attended the funeral, among them: E. S. Douglass, E. E. Douglass, Allen G. Fearce, 11. J. Blalock, and M.\ and Mrs. Wm. Barnwell. Mr. Ellison was a young man of the highest character, and gave full promise of a successful future. At the time of his death, he was in the employ of Mr. Wm. Barnwell, insurance and real estate broker, Columbia, whose confidence and that of the business public Mr. Eilison bad won by efficient ami faithful service and by high integrity. BUCK LICK KEWS. Penitentiary, Lee Jackson, who has been in our section for some time past was overtaken and ai rested near Rock Hill and safely confined in the guardhouse of that city. By this time we suppose he is with his comrades in Raleigh. Mr. T. E. Smith has extended bis store and is prepared to do a larger business this fall. Mr. P. C. Mellichampe has also opened up a tiic.5 lot of goods and they invite both J heir friends and neighbors to call on them before going to the city to make their purchases. Every family in this section has, or lately has had, sickness in it. A doctor could do well by establishing an office here.
