DEATH OF JCDE ROBIXSON*. 1
A telegram was received in Winns- (

of Mr. Jade Robinson at the home of ,
his father in Orangeburg County. Mr.
Robinson was a nephew of Sheriff
Ellison. He was at the time of his death
in the employ of the Bell Tele*
phone Company, serving the company
as a special agent, and was regarded as
a particularly efficient and conscientious
yonng man. He was engaged
for some time in improving the Greenville
telephone exchange, and the News
of that city has the following to say of
him'
He was a warm-hearted, affable,
genial gentleman of a bright, snnnv
disposition, whom it was a pleasare to :
know and associate with. The news
of his death will be received with sincere
regret wherever he was known.
j An energetic, zealons and conscientious
employee, the company loses in his
death one of its most valuable and i
valued men.
Mr. Robinson's death occurred at
his home in Iioseville, Orangeburg

AOW LEWIS MINOlt COLEMAN' DIED.
The following extract from Mr.
U. B. Brocks' address may be of interest
to many Fairfield people. Mr.
.orooKS sam:
"Comrades, has any oue told you
how Lewis Minor Coleman died, a
gallant young officer who raceived his
mortal wound at Fredericksburg? For
more thau three months his suffering
seemed to be all tbat auv mortal could
possiblv bear. Yet ir was endured
with tbe utmost patience and resignation.
When convinced that there was
no hope of recovery, he was more
than patient; he was happy; he was
jubilant. He said to friends waeping
at his bedside: 'Tell Gen. Lse and
G?n. Jackson they know how Christian
soldiers can fight, bnt I wish they
could be here that ihev misrht see how
| one of them can die.' When his sinking
pulse indicated the speedy lermi
nation of his snfferiug, bis brother bent
over him, and said: 'Lewis, yon are
dying.' His response was: 'Come,
Lord Jesus, oh, come quickly.'
Rallying all the strength ihut was j
left him, he sang bnt faintly:
j "1*11 speak tho honors of thv name
With mr last laboring breath,
And, dying, thee in mine arms,
Tbe antidote ot death."

THE
rABULATED BY EXECUTIVE (
ERNOR ?McMARAN'S ]
The executive committee met in the
;ourt house on Thursday to tabulate
'he rescltof the primary election. A
*reat deal of interest was manifested
in the race between Richmoud and
Moore because it was known that if
either was nominated only two or
three votes would be between them.
According to the returns received at
the bulletin board, after the regiment
yote came in, Richmond was two
ahead. The official certificate and

the 1st Regiment, thus breaking the
lieap to that point. Ic was evident,
however, that an actual count of
baiiots and a close examination of the
ballot? and poll lists would be required
to settle the result. It may be
stated here that the committee showed
every indication to follow the rules of
the party strict!}* without reference to
individual choice for the office. The
first question that came up was a report
in the form of a certificate from
the manaic.i-- at Wateree that three
men had voted, who^e names were
duly enrol - d, but the.managers failed
to put thcii^uaines on the poll list.
The committee decided that the certificate
was equivalent to addiug to or
amending the poll list. Two of these
yotes were for Richmond and one for

A.bout three weeks ago he was advised
by his attending physicians to go to
Baltimore for treatment. His family
md friends knew of the seriousness of
bis disease, an anuerism, and that a
most delicate and dangerous operation

hope of his ultimate recoyerv.
rhe surgeons during the last two or
three days of his illness could find no
promise of hope, and the end to his

BUCK LICK KEWS.
Chief of Policc. Cu!p from Iiock
Ilili was in our town this week on
business and sold another piece of his
land to Mr. P. C. Mellicharape.
Through him we learn that the escaped
convict from N. G. Penitentiary,
Lee Jackson, who has been in our
section for some time past was overtaken
and ai rested near Rock Hill and
safely confined in the guardhouse of
that city. By this time we suppose
he is with his comrades in Raleigh.
Mr. T. E. Smith has extended bis
store and is prepared to do a larger
business this fall.
Mr. P. C. Mellichampe has also
opened up a tiic.5 lot of goods and
they invite both J heir friends and
neighbors to call on them before going
to the city to make their purchases.
Our little town is paid fre^'ient visits

We need a good doctor, a drug store
and a telephone here (o complete the
conveniences of living near a town so
remote from the railroad. Every
family in this section has, or lately
has had, sickness in it. A doctor
could do well by establishing an office
here. We had expected a young
pbysiciau, Dr. Hoover, of Ridgeway,
who has been very highly recom
mended to ns, but he hasi.'t come yet.

To T. S. Brice, Chairman and members
of the Democratic Executive
Committee of Fairfield Conntv:
Please to take notice that James L.
Richmond, a candidate for County
Auditor in the primary election held i
in said county, on Tuesday, Sept.
13th, 1S98, hereby coutests, and protests
against, the action of the said
committee in declaring that George
W Moore is the duly nominated candidate
for said office, according to the
f?r?nstirTj inn and rnle9 and regulations
of tbe Democratic party of South
Caroli-a, upon the following grounds:
(1) That the returns, duly certified
by the managers, the poll list, and'
tally sheet show that twenty-six votes
were cast at the election at the Bear
Creek club for County Auditor, of
which tbe contestant received six, anrt
G. W. Moore twenty. That at said I
club tbe managers, imipediatcly on
the closing of tbe polls,, publicly and
in the presence of a number of people,
counted the number of ballots in the
county box and on each and every
count it was found that twenrv-six
votes had been cast for county offices,
corresponding to the poll lift, except
for the office of Judge of Probate,
ror wnicn omce one ot me tweiuy-siA
ballots had the names of both candidates
for said office erased: thus accounting
for onlv tweDty-five votes
for the office of Judge of Probate.
That after the closing of the polls aud
the cointing- of said ballots, the managers
pnbliciy announced that J. L.
Richmond had received six votes and
G. W. Moore twenty votes. That
J. L. Richmond, haviDg received six
of said ballots, ana <j>. w. jiooru
twenty, tbe ?xecutiv3 Committee
erred in changing the true result of
the election at said box, by giving
said G. W. Moore twenty-two of said
votes and J. L. Richmoud only three
thereof; and thereupon declaring that
the said G. W. Moore had been duly
nominated, accords to the ru!e3 of
the Democratic p-r\, when the true
result of thv i oiioti in the county
showed tb.u J. L. Richmond, the contestant,
bad received a majority of the
votes cast for County Auditor, in the
county, and should have beeu declared
tbe nominee.
(2) That the committee erred in de- i
claring G. W. Moore the nominee of I
the Democratic party for Couutv j
Auditor, upon an actcal recount of j
all of the ballots cast in the various
boxes of ihe several clubs of the county,
instead^ of upon tbe returns of the

of the Democratic party, "tbart, no

Another great discovery ha? been j
made, aud that too, by a Jady in this

upon her and for seven years she
withstood its severest test?, but her
vital organs were undermined and
death seemed imminent. For three j
months she coughed incessantly, and '
could not sleep She finally discovered
a way to recovery, by purchasing of

much relieved on taking first dose, that
?he slept all night; and with iwo bottles,
has been absolutely cured. Her
