DAVIDSON" TAKES CHARGE.
Yorlczille Enquirer.
At a ioiut meeting of committees
from the boards of "trustees of ibe
Presbyterian High School and of
Davidson College, held in Rock Hill
last Saturday, arrangements were perfected
-whereby ibe high school property
is to be at once conveyed to Davidson
College.
The negotiations looking to the end
indicated have been under way for
some months past; but have been delayed
somewhat in order to give time
in which to raise the necessary money
wifh <rehif.h to nnt matters in orODer
shape. All of thft money has been
raised with tho xception of some two
or three lv n I.?j dollars, and upon the
assuran u ui the committee tb.it tbis
amount would be forthcoming without
unnecessary delay, it was decided to
complete tbe transfer forthwith, in
order that lvie college people might at
once proceed with the work of organizing
the proposed school.
The general purpose of the Davidson
College people is to maintain a
lirst-class high school, which will afford
all the facilities for a thorough academic
education, and at tJ-e same time
serve as a pi cparatoi v institution tor
Davidson. * !
The Davidson trustees are very much
pleased with the outlook, and so are
those Rock iliil gentlemen who originally
put up the money for the erection
of the high school building, and
who tried so zealously to put the ins;itution
on a permanent successful basis.
These latter gentlemen are now en
couraged to bilieve tint at last they
are about to realizs a fruition of their
earnest hopes, and that from henceforward
the school vill be not only a
source of pride, but of great practical
benefit to the city and surrounding
country.

The prospects for an excellent attendance
and a lovely time were very
promising- nntil about noon, when the
heavens began to weep over the sad

in gla=s shells profruding from
their pockets.
A select party from here spent a

between Puint RecJ: and Drummer's

most every one is acquainted with the
legend of the latter hill?the fad fate
of the poor drummer boy who nightly
beats the long roll under the solemn
heavens with no witnesses save the
sentinel stars, who keep their vigils
o'er his lonely grave. The younger
members of the party explored those
heights and all declared I hey were
:i:oply repaid f<ir their labor and
energy expended in asceuding?on arriving
at the summit and gaining so excellent
a view ol the surrounding landscape.
We arrived home very weary
but highly delighted with the day and
the never-to De-forgotten fish stew.
But alas! alas! every sweet has its ,
bitter and we were aroused in the "we
sma hours" of the night to seek the ,
nearest doctor for our honored and '
beloved pater who afterwards exnrARfiprl
himself to the effect that he '
did not care ever to attend another
fish stew.
