A Seveke Hail Storm.?A roport
from Blackstock tells of a vorv Hfivnrn

and destructive hftil storm in tho northeaetpvn
portion of tho county 011 last
Sunday. Tho work of tho storm began
at four o'clock in the afternoon,
and although it lasted but a half hour,
it proved very destructive to tho oats
and grain crops upon tho plantations
of Messrs. Edward P. Mobloy and
James Jones, and a number of other
farms in the immediate neighborhood.
The hailstones were unusually large,
and the planters ai'o "blue" ovor tho
effects of Sunday's work. Fairfield
has had hor share of storms and
cyclones for ono year certainly. *
A Shooting Affkay.?A difficulty
occurred between John Green and
Isaac Porcher, both colored men living
in this placc, on Saturday-last, near the
residence of Mr. G. \V. Crawford 011
Congress street. Strong drink possibly
had something to do with origi

quarrel ensued and Porcher" dealt
Green a severe blow in his eye. Green
thereupon slipped back into his yard,
procured a pistol, returned and fired

wails of an adjoining house. A warrant
has been issued for John Green's
arrest on the charge of assault and
battery with intent to kill. lie has
not j et been apprehended, and it is
likely that he has lied tho county.

The Inspection.?On Tuesday afternoon,

Light Infantry assembled in rear of
tho Town Hall, and pursuant to appointment
tho company was soon in
readiness for tho annual inspection by
tho Adjutant and Inspector Gonoral.
Goncral Manigault- arrived on tho
north-bound train on Tuesday evening
