O-^lTES OIPEIT 11 O’CHiOCE;,
The Raleigh Observer, in commend
ing In the young men of the State the
example of the late Farish Furman,
says: “P»h4 it is said that agriculture
is not an engaging occupation. This
idea we would combat. In the first
place, generally agriculture is more
remunerative than manufacturing. It
is also generally more remunerative
than the professions. It is preferabie-
bccausc further removed fro n tempta
tions—less exacting, attended by fewer
vices and more pleasures. The arena
is not so splendid, but the skilful,
practical, eminent agriculturalist, such
as Furmau was, and such as many of
our people are, have more weight,
better reputation aud a higher influ
ence than the ordinary manufacturer,
lawyer or physician. Wo could wish
to see hundreds of our young men
seek to walfein the pathway this dis
tinguished Georgian has so admirably
marked out.”
The excavation* which have been
instituted in Rome by the Collcgio Ro
mano arc proving to be rich in Egyp
tian treasures. An obelisk which was
recently found, and which lias been re
moved to the Piazza del Collcgio Bb-
mu*>t it in a wonderful state of pre
servation. It is covered from top to
bottom with splendid hieroglyphics. It
is the very conntcrpart of the one
standing in the Piazza of the Pantheon,
and the two must have stood together
in front of the Temple of Isis, where
the one last excavated was found.
From this and other circumstances it
lias been found possible to draw con
clusions as to the destruction of the
Temple of Isis. The attempt of
Nichomachus Flavians;, in tbe year
394 B. C., to revive the worship of
Isis was met by a strong reaction,
which resulted in the wholesale muti
lation aud destruction of the Egyptian
idols. The area of the temple is cov
ered with fragments of statues, &c.
The lately-fouud obelisk, however,
stood erect for a longer period, and
only tell after tbe destrnction of the
tcir.pie, on tbe site of which now stands
the only Gothic Church in Howe,' Santa
Maria Sopra Minerva.

with ease what the usual prescriptions and
treatment for that miserable malady failed
wholly to bring about. 1 am also glad to
state that the Tonic has greatly relieved
me personally of a troublesome atonic con
dition of the stomach 5f long standing. It
is the ideal purifier and invigorant.”
Messers. IIiscox & Co. call especial at
tention to the fact that after April 1*V18K3,
the name and rtyle of tins preparation will
hereafter be simply Parker's Tonic. The
word “Ginger” is dropped, for the reason
that unprincipled dealers are constantly
deceiving their patrons by substituting in
ferior preparations under the name of
Ginger; and as ginger is an unimportant
flavoring ingredient in our Tonic, we are
sure that our friends will agree with us as
to the propriety of the change. There will
he no change, however, in the preparation
itself; and ail bottles remaining in the
hands of dealers, wrapped under the name
of “Parker’s Ginger Tonic,” contain
the genuine medicine if the signature of
IIiscox & Co. is at the bottom of outside
wrapper.
