to a notice in our last issue a meeting
of the Winnsboro Library Society was

country was selected, and Mr. George
II. McMastcv, the chairman of the
executive committee, was instructed to
negotiate with the tjiffercot publishing
and newspaper agencies, with a view
of procuring the desired magazines at

selection- of the library .material an
eye was had to the interest and tastes
of the ladies, and it is earnestly hoped
that a considerable number of them
will decide to become members of the
Society. Owing to the kindness and
liberality jt',Colonel Rion, the Society
has been furnished with a nice, suita
ble and convenient room in the Ladd
building, free of any rent. The suc
cess of the undertaking seems now to
be assured, ail'd It is probable that
others will conclude to join and enjoy
the reading matter of the club.

, The Monthly Agricultural Re
port.—The Department of Agricul
ture has received 816 returns from
towuship correspondents, embracing
every county in the State, and showing
the condition of the crops on July 1.
Cotton is reported in northern Caro
lina at 93 per cent., a gain of 13 per
cent, since June 1, in middle Carolina
87, a gain of 3, and lower Carolina 84,
a gain of 3. The average condition
of the crop for the State, therefore,
will be 88 pe’ cent., against 92 for the
same period last ytar.

ers was W. G. Dotson, who stole a
shirt, the property of William D. Mur
ray, both men being members of Com

mule, to be seated on the mule’ facer
backward, feet tied under the belly of
the mule, to be led in front of the
whole brigade drawn up in line of* Fresh Cream Cheese
battle; on bis hat is to be fastened a
board, and on it written, in large let
ters, the word “Thief.” The drum
mers, and buglers are to follow him,
making all sorts of discord with their
