Cathcart on the charge of obtaining
goods under false pretenses. The de
fendant was charged with obtaining
money from Wilkes Williams, tlue
prosecutor, by making false represen
tations. Ho was fomid “Not guilty”.

It was our good fortune to be pres
ent at the exhibition of J.
$bc]t£ii’s school at Sigipson’s Turnout
on last Wednesday* j^e 27th inst. A
regular programme Bfia been prepared
for the occasion and the exercises in
pursuance of it were elegantly and
gracefully conducted by our popular
and dignified school commissioner.
After an appropriate prayer by the
Rev. J. D. Huggins, of that commu
nity, Rio examination in the various
branches were begun and continued
during the whole of the^ fore09011. In
character they were thorough, rigid
and searching, and the accuracy and
effleiengy displayed were alike credit
able to teacher and to pupils.
The toughest ordeal over, all hearti
ly partook of the splendid and tempt
ing repast so lavishly prepared, and it
i^ ugedl?s@ to say that tliis; interesting
feature coutributed , no little to the
subcassjof the occasion'. .
The Ladies’ Hewing Society Jiad a
stand with cake and lemonade in the
afternoon for tlu^bjuicfitof the church,
W'hicli was well patronized. , v

day afternoon, and displayed no little
skill in the management of the engine
