'account of a fearful tragedy committed
near Charlotte, N. C., on Thursday,
the Qith nrtit. Mr. J. G. Sitton was
murdered by Mr. Thomas L. Shields,
’a revenue officer. The cause of the
difficulty was the alllcged seduction
of the slayer's sister by the deceased.
‘The girl deifies the charges with much
earnestuovs, and the evidence seems
to sustain her denial. Mr. Sitton
■was educated -at Erskiue College and
was well known to us as a genial,
sociable and kind-hearted fellow.

Death.—The Associate Reformed
Presbyterian contains an account of
the death of Mrs. Martha Boyce, wife
ot the Rev. James Royce, D. D , asso
ciate editor of that paper and 'Presi
dent of Due West Thchlogtca'l Semi
nary. Dr. Boyce, with his lamented
wife, lived many years in Fairfield

couple in the county has ever made,
during that length of more, more earn
est and warm-hearted friends, liic
Doctor was the pastor of the New
Hope Associate Reform clmrclr, in the
upper portion of tins county, for
thirty-seven years, and impressed aft

ability and originality. The deceased
had been suffering froSn a stroke of
paralysis for several year*, but took
dangerously ill several weeks ago and
died on Monday, the 4th fast. The
many friends of the bereaved husband
and the lamented dead will hear tvitti
genuine sorrow of the death of a love

Tine Court.—The Court of Com-
liYOn Pleas, since Wednesday, the dth
inst., has been busily engaged in the
hearing of equity causes. None of the
eases were of much public interest,
and consequently no notice of them is
necessary. The CoiVit will adjourn
this morning. The business of the
entire term, both on the civil and crim
inal side of the Court was light. Only
four Convictions is quite a creditable
record for our coufaty, and it is satis
factory evidence that crime is gradu
ally decreasing.

lumbia about nine o’clock on that day
and go direct to Camden. Round-trip
