Columbia and Winnsboro Unite in the Fee*
tlvltles of the Seventeenth.
Thursday was a grand and memo
rable day for the children, and the
varied pleasures of the occasion will
be talked of among the little huddles
in the many years to come. All were
tip bright and early, dressed and await
ing the arrival of the train £Httt wotAd
bring the fm3e Columbians and their!
friends. By nine o’clock the train of
five loaded cars rolled up to the depot,
ami from that moment the hilarious
enjoyment began ami continued unin- j old
terrupted throughout the entire day
until the little visitors were again car
ried to their homes at the capital.
Besides the Sunday School of the
Washington Street church, there were
a considerable nurpbey of young ladies
and gentlemen. Aud io the former,
we feel free to say, Hie boys of the
Boro (the Bachelors particularly)
played the devoted in their wonted
style and grace. Lost badges in the
Jittle circle counted for naught, for
hearts were trumps, and the desperate
game went on from morn till night;
and if we must give the record of the
day, \o ‘their everlasting shame, be it
said, the boys were beaten, and it is
whispered around \tisk one alone bore
off the trumps of three who occupy
high seats in the councils of (he Union.
Adieu to the boys—sackcloth and ashes
to the Order! i
. The picnic, as was announced, was
in the “Presbyterian ^Todds,” and
much credit is due the borne commit
tee for the elaborate and complete
preparations made for the enjoyment
of all. Three nice tables were neatly
erected on the upper edge of the
woods, and the abundance of provi
sions displayed when the hour for din
ner arrived proved substantially that
three were none- too many. Safely
constructed swings , were dotted all
over \lie )?rove, and it is needless to
say contributed more to fbc pleasure
of the children than ali else together.

our visitors are due Mr. McBride
