I had a scholar a few weeks ago whom L
tried to punish in various modes, such

boy was one of those boys who was

I tried to appeql to his better nature,
but I found that ho bad no better
nature that I could appeal to'. I tried
the rod on this chap and t found that
it acted like a charm. I tried for near
ly six months to govern Without the

respectfully direct the attention of the
United States Government to this iidquity,
protest against its Conti'fiance, and in
struct the officials who shall lie chosen by
this Convention to present our protest to
the Presideut of the United States, and
respectfully but firmly to urge tfpori the
President that it is the duty of the Govern
ment of the United States to decline to sup
port paupers whose pauperism begin un
der and is the result of English misgovfrn-
inent, and to demand of England that she
send no more of her paupers to these shores
to become a burden upon the American
people!
It is difficult to say whether dr not

Convention in Philadelphia, but cer
tainly the ifoblcFpurposes of the assem
blage will find an echo in the hearts of
all liberty-loving men in every corner
and section of the globe, and the ma

the amelioration of Ireland.
