was preached by the retiring modera

county, S. (J.. who selected as.the basis
of his discourse l. Cor.," 8tt cligp., 9

With God.” The sermon avjjs an ex

After the roll had been culled, it was
found that twenty-one ministers and
the same number of eldees wereprev,
ent. Only one minister ip the entire
Presbytery was absent, -and that one
by reason of, severe illness. The elec
tion of a moderator for the present
meeting resulted in the choice of the
Rev. Robert Lathau, of Yorkville,
S. 0., who at once took upon himself
the, duties of chairman. The Rev.
John E. Pressley, D. D....the eluted
clerk of the body, was at bis post with
his characteristic promptness.
After tlie Presbytery had been con-
slittited with prayer, the members
came down to business. In the read

meetings, |it appeared that since the

[REPOaTED KOR THE NEWS AND IIERAL ).]
On Tuesday morning, at nine o’clock,
the Presbytery met in jinvatc session
to consider and criticise the lecture
and sermon delivered by Mr. Plexico
on the previous day. After a short
conference, it was* resoly^d to sustain
them as trials for HEeitsuve, and eleven
o’clock was fixed as the hour toy such
licensure. The regular session was
then opened, and reports from the.
various committees were heard and
considered. • , r ,
The report of the comfnitlce on pas
tors’ salaries exhibited a decided im
provement over former years in the
promptness with which salaries had
been paid. Only, four congregations
out of twenty-seven from which re
ports had been' received showed a
balance unpaid—the whole mrgregat-
iug less than one lufndted apd twenty-
live dollars—while quite a mimber of
the congregations had overpaid the
amounts promised.

The opera house was crowded last night

and those who wefii for Hie purpose of
having an uproarious. laugh were .#lliy
gratified. The perfortnance was excellent.
Ronaldo, “The Rubier Man,” performed
some astronishing feats. Tfee ..ringing and
dancing of Miss Annie Devere were very
racefnl and pleasing. Mart Daniels gave
exhibitions of his skill qn the Harmonieum,
)ad an imitation of the xylophone upon an

In both cf those performances he was
