At the request of the Rev. R. R.
Vann, I have consented to undertake
to organize a Union Snliday Schotd
Convention in Fairfield county. To
attain unto this desirable end, the fol
lowing-named gentlemen arc respect
fully invited to meet me at the Metho
dist Episcopal Church, South, in
Winnsboro, on SaVurday licforo the
fourth Sunday in April, the 21st, at 10
o’clock, a. m.: KcV. J. K. McCain, Dr.
S. W. Book hart, Rev. D. E. Jordan,
Rev. John T. ChaTtacrs, Rev. W. W.
Williams, Rev. Charles G. Bradford,
Rev. W. W. Mffbr, Rev. T. W. Melli-
ehamp, ReV. It. It. Vann, Messrs. R.
H. Jcnntiings, L. M. Yarborough, A.
S. Dooglass, J. E. McDonald, J. N.
Center, Lnpo and Mr. .
The business to be transacted on the
aboVe-incntioved day will be some
what after the following order: First,
to select the place and time for the
Convention to meet. Secondly, to se
lect subjects for discussion, and assign
the same to gentlemen whose duty it
shall be to ptepare an essay or an ad
dress on the same> to be delivered at
the Convention. And thirdly, to draft
rules and regulations for the govern
ment of the Convention.
We respectfully request every igen-
tlcmnu Whose name is mentioned in
the above list, toexercise ids intellectu
al faculties in the line of thought sug
gested in this communication. Then
we may reasonably hope that the out-
doBVe will be a unique programme, |
even though it is culled from the many
subjects and plans presented for the
consideration of the executive com
mittee, and not the work of one mind.
Still it is possible, though .not proba-
thc courtesy of the recent visitors—
Messrs. J. C. Robertson and I). P.
Crosby. Having found these oranges
exceedingly delicious, and beard in
addition thereto of the fatness of that
land as abb re, be is fully prepared to
understand why so many people who
are plagued with “consumption” are
resorting (hither.

the younger' readers of The News and

an excellent suggestion from a young

of age. Briefly, that suggestion is, to
present prizes, to be paid oVit of an
entrance fee (of about ten cents) to the
first successful competitors. These
“ilems” being already too lengthy; the
details will be presented in the next
issue, it the good editors may permit.
In the meantime, young friends, try
your skill on the following problems:
1. Express the precipe vultie dif 1-7

2. Represent the value 1 with a sin

3. What number, multiplied by 4,
the product divided by 3, the quotient
