LOCAL MEN PROPOSED FOR

STITUTE OF AGRICULTURE
A number of local men have been
proposed for membership in the A
merican Institute of Agriculture, Chi
cago, a national organization for
training farmers and those interested
in promoting agriculture, on the prin
ciples and best methods in the mark
eting of farm products. Some of

The Institute-is working with state
marketing officials, the college of ag
riculture, county agents, farm bur
eaus,- granges, and various farmer's
associations to train suitable men for
the many marketing jobs which are
now opening up in this and other
states. It also aims to teach farm
ers how to market their crops to bet
ter advantage, and to promote gen
eral prosperity of the community.
More than a hundred national author
ities on the marketing of farm pro
ducts. contribute to the training,
which is given by a system of home
study. The director of the Institute
is George Livingston, formerly chief
of the U. S. Bureau of Merkets, an]
among the members of the advisory
council are J. - R.. Howard, president
Sthe American Farm Bureau Fed
e 'ion, and S. J. Lowell, master of
the National Grange.
The Institute plans to limit it.;
training this year to onlyL 2,000 men
in the entire United States. Certain
men who' show most interest will be
chosen from each county or commun
ity.
OCTOBER DAIRY HONORS
Clemson College, Nov. 25. Fomni of
Glenville, a Guernsey cow owned by
C. S. Mc~all,i Bennettsville, won first
honor in October among the dairy
cows on official test conducted by the
Dairy Division of Clemson College.
Her production was 82.6 pounds of
butter fat and 1683.3 pounds of milk.
Second honor for the month went
Arcady Segis Adia 11, a Holstein
.'med by V. M. Mqntgomery, Spart
;urg, her production being 76.8
ponds of butter fat and 2453.7 pounds
oiil k. This is the sixth consecutive
mth that Arcady Segis Adia 11 has
led the Holsteins in production.
Russet's Plymouth Best owned by
South Carolina Experiment Station,
Clemson College, led the Jerseys in
production with 58.,5 pounds of butter
fat, and 975 pounds of milk.
tThere were 91 cows on official test
dluring the month, 57 of which won
s on the honor roll by making
more pounds of butter fat dur
ing the month. There were 27 Guern
seys with an average of 50.6 pounds
of butter fat, 28 Holsteins with an
-average of 53.8 pounds of butter fat,
-and 2 Jerseys with an average of 49.4
pounds of butter fat.
Among the Guernseys on the hon
or roll were 8 owned by C. S. McCall,
Bennettsville; 4 by L. D. Jennings,
Sumter; one by E. B. McCutcheon,
Bishopville; 3 by W. B. Stringfellow,
Chester; 5 by Ware Shoals Mfg. Co.;
2 by Clemson Agricultural College:
one by R. M. Cooper, Wisacky; and
4 by Pedigreed Seed Co., Hartsville.
Among the Holsteins on the honor
roll were 16 owned by V. M. Mont
gomery, Spartanburg; 9 by J. T. Wil
lard, Spartanburg; one by the State
Hospital, Columbia and 2 by Clemson
Agricultural College.
.The only two .ierseys on the honor
roll were owned by South Carolina
Experiment Station, Clemson College.
