The various in creases go into effect April 1. The Southern Bell Telephone com pany fIed its petition for a rate re vision in South CaroJina with the commission last October, the in creases asked aggregating a general raise of approximately 25 per cent. The commission, after numerous hearings and an exhaustive study of the documentary evidence submitted. approved the company's proposed rate revision schedule with only two exceptions. The proposed increase for farmers' lines and farmers' ex change service was denied as was al so the elimination of free interea change service between towns, the ex changes in hich are less than three miles aparL. Charges were authorized however, for this interchange service between towns more than three miles apart, practically substituting for this free exchange service the long dis tance service now employed In com munication between the great major ity of towns in and beyond the bor ders of the.state.
