Ketchin left yester. day for Statesville, where the First presbytery is in session. -There should be a fine atten dance at the entertainment at the Theepian hall Friday evening in behalf of the public library. -At a meAting of Camp Raines Thursday Miss Mamie Jordan was elected sponsor for the re union to be held in Columbia May 16-18. -You will be sure to enjoy the entertainment at the Thespi an hall Friday evening and at the same time you will be helping a good cause, the public library. -Local train 27, southbond, now arrives at Winnsboro at 8:34 a. m. instead of 8:52 and 34, northbound, at 8:11 p. m. instead of 8:10. These changes went into effect Sunday. -Jessie, the little three-year old. daughter of Mr. J. C. Stewart of Longtown died Friday night and its remains were brought to Winnsboro Saturday afternoon and interred in the Presbyterian cemetery. -The News and Herald ac knowedgea with thanks an invi tation to the commencement of the Southern Dental College of Atlanta, Ga., from which Dr. A. G. Quattlebaum of Winnsboro was graduated yesterday. -The general assembly of the Southern Presbyterian church will be held at Greenville May 17. Mr. J. W. Bankhead of Stover was elected by Bethel presbytery at its session last week a lav commissioner. -Rev. J. L. Freeman has just ended his seventh year as pastor of the Winnusboro Baptist church and his congregation took note of this anniversary occasion in a very happy way by presenting him with a beautiful office desk. -By the giving in of a plank in the floor, Mrs. B. G. Tennant received a fall Saturday. In falling she knocked off the frying pan and was right ba.dly burned on the neck by the hot grease. She also received several pain ful bruises. -Communion services were held at the, A. R. P. church Sab bath morning. The pastor was assisted in the preparatory services by Rev. J. A. White of Blackstock. Rev. Oliver John son, who was to have assisted him, was detained at home on account of sickness. flarried. At Bascomville on the evening of April 26th, Mr. L. M. Mack orell against State Constable Boland for the recovery of twelve quarts of whiskey, shipped to the plaintiff and seized by the defendant. The jury brought in a verdict in favor of the plaintiff for the return of the goods or their equivalent in money. ;iiThe prettiest lot of rock ers ever brought to Winnsboro just received. As the result of the great in dustrial developments now going on at Catawba Falls, the May picnic which has been held there the first Saturday in May for more than a century, according to the best information, will not be held next Saturday. The ant horities have requested that the young people do not gather there at this time, as there is a great deal of blasting going on and this would make it very dan gerous. Within another twelvo months the great improvements that are now being made will be ., comipleted and the young people from the four adjoining counties and from the four corners of the earth can gather there and se e what mighty developments ba- ge been made. Early Closing The grocery stores yes terday began to close their doore; at 6 o'clock and will continue to do so until September 1 wit'h the exception of Saturdays. If past, precedent is to be followed., the dry goods stores will not begin' their early closing till June 1. In this respect the dry gc-ods stores here are from 1.5 to 30 d ays behind those in the other tc-wn of the State-. In many towns the early closing of the dry goods stores begins at the sam etime as thatof the grocery stores and ianmo instance have 'we seen where the early closing is postponed to begin so late as June 1. It is to be hoped that the dry goods stores will this season come to an aggreement whereby they will begin the early closing on May 15 instead of postponing it to June 1. To get out early these afternoons is a big consideration to the clerks; .and, if all will adhere to these hours, none can lose by it. Wedding at Blythewood.
