The Bank of Fairf*eld opened
its doors for- busines.; Thuesday

will make it a success. Its capi

$50,000. The bank building has!
been put in good shape. The

n White Men Hield Up.
SWhile on their way home la a
-buggy Saturday evening Mr. W.
t R.IRabb and Mr. J. H. Gibson
were greatly annoyed after leav
ing their store by a negro, Abe
e Lumpkin, continually riding back
. and forth by them. Just below
~,the depot the former told him
this thing must stop, whereupon
the negro began to curse them
vehemently and even went so far
as to threaten to shoot them and
fdid go through the motion of
sshooting, though it was after
al wards found he had no weapon.
g Both white men were unarmed
a and they got out of the buggny an d
n got hold of him and brought him
- up town and delivered him to the
>town authorities. Mor day morn
ing Abe was brought nop before
Mayor Ketchin and was fined
$75.00 on three different counts.
is fine was promptly paidi.
While the fine is a pretty good
one, though none too heavy, the
e (negro ought to count himis elf for
o tun ate in getting off so light ; for,
- but for the coolness of these
ewhite men, his foolish drunken
er actions would have cost him his
kelife. Abe has borne a good rep
ga1tion and his action in this in
r- tauoe was a oomplet3 surprise
dto all who knew him.
is mportant to Hiousekeepers.

I now have a car of ice~ and am
