Wednesday, Nov. 8, 1905 That decision of the Attorney xeneral's to the effect that coun ies voting out the dispensary annot share in the school funds oming from this source will have io effect upon the vote of the nan who is guided by higher notives than selling his vote for t mere song. Judge Klugh at the'hearing be ore him at Gaffney Monday re 'used to issue the injunction Lgainst holding the dispensary ,,ection in Spartanburg yester lay. And so unless the election prophets have all been very much >ff, Spartanburg is overwhel singly a prohibition eounty to iay. Judge Pritchard has not yet de 31ared the Brice act unconstitu bional. As the matter came up before him last Tuesday, it was aot in a proper shape; so the Atorneys for Howell, the dispen ser of Tniofi county, who is Loping to be reinstated in his former office through Federal in erference. were instructed that ,hey would have to go and come igain. Uncle Sam is not very ast these days at taking a hand in state affairs. The action of the grand jury f Spartanburg in presenting the various members of the county board of control and the county 3ispensers for their wrong tdoings, 9s brought out by the dispensary investigating committee, must receive the hearty approbation Df all right-thiaking people, who favor an honest administration in office, whether they be for or against the dispensary. Now if the petit jury will only do as well. As an illustration of wh at the appearance of the streets of a town count for in making a -a im pression on visitors, it is ui :der stood that the new propriet, >rs of the Colonial Inn, Winnsi >oro's tourist hotel, made it a cond ition of their purchase that the st reets of Winnsboro are to be : ade more presentable. Mayor Ke: bchin has committed himself to this demand for a cleaner town. So Winnsboro is to get not o2 11y a tourist hotel, but is to fall io line in. the very important ite1 a of :ivic improvement.- And who knows but that other enterp rises are being kept away from Wi nns boro bdcause of the appear: ince >f her streets. liayor Ket, shin is too much of a bnsiness man not to appreciate the fnll sig nifi ance of this demand for st reet mprovement. So let's haye the l!eaner streets right now. There must be some real b mi ness man on that Spartanl iurg ~rand jury, judging from the eollowing ,paraLgraph taken rrom ts presentmeat, which is c'aock full of good business sensos and s a heavy blow at the p:risent method of m.aking report!; that nean nothing at all: We have n dtexamined the books -our county officers, nor. do we think it worth while to .do so, 3xperience of our sister co unties has shown the utter futilit v and worthlessness of superfici al ex amination. WINNSBORO'5 TOURIST HOTEL . rhe flaginficent Boylston Property Bought by 11isses Reynolds and Vanderhoof, Who Wiil at Once lake Extensive Improvements for the Accommod--tion of Winter Tour ists. That Winnsboro is to have a tourist hotel is no longer a cas tle in the air. A deal was made 4 Monday which insures success I for the effort to make this his- 4 toric town a winter resort both on account of the fine property that is to be -used for this purpoee and the experience of those who are to be in charge of it. The magnificent Boylston property I then passed into new hands, the { puchascts being MYses Virinia1 Reymi~ts and Josie Vanderhoof, of Mont Clair, New Jersey. These ladies have had great suc cess in the hotel businezs, having a large summer hotel at this I popular resort and having kept most successfully winter hotels, at Summerville and Augusta for several winters. As soon as the deal was closed, these new proprietors at once gave orders for a wind-mill and other apparatus for furnishing an abundant supply of water. Elec-, tric lights will at once be put in and also an improved system of heating. The building will be thoroughly furnished and will be ready for the accommodation of guests by Jan. 1, 1906, in time for the tourists of te approach ing season. Winnsboro's tourist hotel will bear the name Colonial Inn, which is indeed appropriate, as the Boylston mansion is a very fine specimen of colonial architecture, one which, with its lovely grounds, has long been the admiration of thousands who have looked upon it in passing through on the trains. It is a great thing for Winnsboro that this start to make it a winter resort is to be undeArtaken by these ladies, whose experience and wide acquaintance practically insures its success. Winnsboro with its fine climate is peculiarly adapted for being a winter resort and the property that is to be used for this purpose is all that could be desired. For OverSixty Years MRS. WINsLow's SOOTING SYRUP has been used for over 60 years by mil lions of mothers for their children while teething, with perfect successs It soothes the child, softens the gumis atlays all pain; cures wind colic, and is the best remediy for Diarrhoa. It will relieve the poor little sufferer immedi ately. Sold by druggists in every part of the world. Twenty-five cents a bttle. Be sure and ask for "Mrs. Winslow's Soothing Syrup,'' and, take no other kind. Monday's Sales. The legal sales Monday were well attended .and the bidding clearly showed that the demand for Fairfield dirt is steadily in creasing. The prices would have gone much higher but for the fact that most of the property sold was merely for the partition of estates. The Williford tract of 1,000 acres was bought in by the ex ecutor at $10,000. SThe old McMaster hotel was bought by R. N. McMaster for $1,355. The Bolick lands were all bought in by Mr. R. D. Bolick at stiff prices. Tha Waters tract of 164 acres was bought by L. R. Fee for $1,005. The McNaull lands were all bought in by the heirs with the exception of one tract of 172 acres bought by Wade Robertson for $723. The Simpson tract of 130 acres was sold to WV. D. Doug lass, attorney, for S580. The Bell lot near the Episco pal cemetery was bought by J. J. Obear for 8205. Not a single head of stock was put on the blodk, a most unusual thing for salesday in November,~ one that points to the prosperous condition of the~ c'unty. Strother Items. Mr. William Boyce Pearson has accepted a p)osition with the Strother Grauite Co. Miss Ellen N. Pearson, who has been in VirginiaL since July, will return to her South Caro lina home in the course of a few weeks, to the delight of her numerous fins Miss Ma y Blackwell will be in he neig'bborhood for some months. She is teaching the Pine Grove school and the patrons and pupils are to be congratulated upon having obtained so efficient and conscientious a teacher. Her cousin, Miss Turner, has charge of the Rtock Creek school ~ and the patrons are well pleased: with her work. There are so few young peo pe in this section that the pres ence of these young ladics is in peed an acquisition to the social life of the community. What a boon is thie R. F. D. system!
