Oconee. too; and that by a vote
of about 7 to L. It will be Au
derson next and then Greenville
and Spartanburg; and others be
sides till the Gr.iat Moral Insti
tuion is doomed foiever in South
Carolina.
3 to 1; that is the average
vote on the proposition of voting
out the dispenary in the 11 coun
ties in which elections have been
held. Mighty good average ma
jority in favor of a mighty good
movement.
The early harvesting of the
cotton crop makes possible the
sowing of more grain and the
better prepration of the land for
next year's crops. The grain
will be sown and the land will be
prepared by the farmers who get
there by being everlastingly at it.
Would going to the Dispensary
once, twico or three times a week
on the part of a man who has
ridden in several miles from the
country entitl3 him to the dis
tinction of a habitual drinker?
If so, the people whose places of
business are near the dispensary
know how much truth there is in
the saying that the Great Moral
Institution numbers none such
awong its contributors to the
support of the public schools.
If the friends of the dispeu
:ary would give as much atten
tion to getting rid of blind tigers
in those counties now having dis
pensaries as they would it should
be done in those in which the
Great Moral Institution has been
voted out, they would succeed in
greatly increasing the legal sale
of the chemically pure and thus
adding to the funds for the sup
port of the public schools. But
this they wili not do; and sb it is
just as well to take chances on
the blind tigers being no more
without the dispensary than with
it.
If there were any dispensa
ryites, who really believed the
Iprohibitionists were going to let
their cause in the hearing before
yesterday go by default by failing
to pu't in an answer, they must
have been sorely disappointed.
when they learned later that
live of the leading- attorneys of
Union and Spartanburg would be
present to look after the interests
of those opposing the dispensary.
After having won such a glorious
fight up to the present, the pro
bilsitionists a'e not going to losE
it all by failieg to appenr in the
coutts. They are not m:ade of
that kind of stuff.
There was a considerable quan
tity of cotton sold the past week
after the advance in prices.
though not ne ar so much as -would
have been expected. There is;
a strong growing sentiment thai
the price of cotton will be better
in a few more weeks than it is
now, and there is mueh more of
the fleecy staple being held than
it was at first thought there
would be after the advance of
cotton to t n cents again. The
thing for the farmers to do is to
hold on to what they h-tve. If
comipelled to haive nmney, they
can borrow it onm their cotton. If
all will do this, t he puice wilhl con
tinue to go np. ''In iunion there
