Just the Thing for Weak, Pale Children Columbia, S. C., Nov. 2, 1 Dear Sirs: I have been givin r Dr. Jam Iivn Blood and Liver-Tomie to my little daughter. She was pale and weak, and had no appetite. She has been benefited by your tonic a great del, and is much stronger, eats well, aid looks healthier. I cheerfully ree ommend Iron Blood and Liver Tonic a a splendid medicine. Yours re ardock, No. 19 S. Sumter St. t the N.'ow and derald offiee. Woodward Gleanings. (Wiitten for last week.) The oyster supper given by th ladies, on the evening of the 20th for the benefit of raising fund for furnishing new desks for th new school building proved to b quite a success, and the people o this section are very much en thused over their woik. The: have enough in the treasury t< furnish the school complete witi newfirniture. The ladies' nex undertaking will be, to add a bel tower and bell and paint th< building, for which, I must say they deserve a great deal of credil for their untiring efforts to mak( this a model school building. Mr. R. M. Brice gave a few o his friends quite .a surprisin treat several days ago in the wa3 of a watermelon he had preserved from last season. It had retained its flavor to perfectiou. Who car beat this? Mrs. J. D. MoLure and lit'tlE daughter, of Chester, are with her sister, Mrs. W. M. Patrick, for this week. Mr. C. Cald well, from States ville, N. Notice is hereby given that the health of the people of this county is in imminent danger and must be taken care of. it has been decided that every precaution be taken to prevent pro longed cases of pneumonia, grippe, etc. The best thing to do is to give a good cough mixture as soon as the cough starts. The State of Monday contained the following inquiry from one of its readers: "E." wagers "W." that Dillon, S. C., is twenty-'five miles north of the latitude ine than Winns boro is. This s been -left to you to decide. Please answer and oblige. The reply by the editor of The State was as follows: "E." loses. Dillon is between five and six miles further north than Winnsboro. While it must be freely admit ted that it is worse than a waste of time for one to try to carry in mind the latitude of- various places, yet it is very important to bave the relative latitude of paces well in mind. And yet it is a matter of fact that generally speaking therd is considerable ignorance among South Caro linians as to the relative latitude of places in the territory suggested by the above inquiries. This is no doubt due to the general lack of information as to the geo graphy of South Carolina. Teach ers in this state can use the above little incident to advantage by giving their pupils niore instruc tion as to the geography of their own state- as well as that of tLe distant isles of the sea. A Grim Tragedy is daily enacted in thousands of omes, as Death claims in each one another victim of a consuamp tion or pneumonia. But when coughs and colds are properly treated the tragedy is averted. F. G. Huntley, of Oaklandon, Ind., writes: "My wife had the conumption, and three doctors gave her up. Finally she took Dr. King's New Discovery for Consumption, Coughs and Col-ds, which cured her, and today she is well and strong." It kills the germs of all diseases. One dose relieves. In Sweden, in olden times, when a young man had been trained for his couutry's service on land and sea, it was the cus tom, as the first step in his educa tion, to take him through the Hall of the Heroes. This was a great room about whose walls were paintings and statues of the men who had served their coun try most valiantly. An old man. the guardian of the place, met the youth, and led him from picturA to picture,. telling him of the brave and splendid deeds done by each hero, till at las3t, when the doors closed behind him, and he stood once more under the open sky, his mind was full of great purposes and ideals, his dream so- to live that he might command a place among thee honored namies.-The Nev: Gem.
