Emergency Medicines.
1It is a great convenienceC to have at
hand reliable remedies for use in case
of accident and for slight injuries and
ailments. A good liniment and one
that is fast becoming a favorite if not
a household necessity is C'hamberlaini's
.Puini Balmi. By applying it promptly
1 to a cut, bruise or barn it allays the
pain and causes the injury to heal in
'ahout one-third the time usually re
qjuired, and as it is an antiseptic it pre
-vents any danger of blood pois'rning.
When Pain Balnm is kept at hand a
sprain miay be treated before inflaima
tion sets in, which mnsures a qjuiet
recovery. For sale by Juo. H. Me

R. LElTNER'S COWS DYING.
The Following Communicai -a'
peared in the State of Sept. i5th.
Will you kindy publish this:
I have quite a number of sick I
cows. '1hey have been on my
river plantation all summer, in
fact. as that is my only pasture
':and as I raise all my cpws, I
might say that they have been on
the river all their lives.
A week ago I found in my
pasture a dead cow ard on going
to the bunch I found a number of
droopy ones. I had them all'
brought home and put in my lot
and since last Friday they have
been steadily-dying at the rate of
from two to four a day. I haxe
lost 12 old and young ones in
that time and now have 34 sick
ones. They die in from three to
four days after they show they
are sick. On opening them I find
the third stomach, or "(manifold"
or "book", as it is variously
called, is filled with dry food-:
as dry as a powder house-and
of course very hard. . The spleen.
seems a little too large and the,
gaul is coated with a coarse.
rough formation. All who see
the cows pronounce it fever, but
this "manifold" is the immediate
cause of their death, whether it
is result of the fever or the direct
cause I am unable to say. It
seems I can get nothing to pene
trate this "manifold" and soften
.e iood.
I will greatly appreciate any
information about treating this
disease.or advice, either through
the columns of The State or ad
