Quarles has been in town the past few days on in surance business, to which he now gives all his time. Mr. Quarles' friends here are glad . to know of his success in winning the Woods prize of a fine gold watch which was to be. awarded to the member of *his class writ ing the largest number of poli cies in a given time. He has also won a free trip to Baltimore as an agent doing work especially worthy of mention. -The Caldwell Dry Goods Co. had their millinery opening last week. Thursday was their spc. cial day and that evening they kept their store open till a late hour, giving all the opportunity of seeing the same by the electric lights, the building .was most beautifully lighted throughout. The display windows had been most beautifully derocated for the occasion, making as it were an invit ition to come in and go back to the millinery room which had been arranged so as to make the display of new hats most 1= viting and'attractiv&iu. every way.
