Fell On Sleep.
The people of Winnsboro were
very much shocked last '1 hursday
to learn that during the previous
night Mrs. M. R. Gladden, widow
of John G. Gladden, had sud
denly fallen on sleep. That morn
ing when her son Marvin, who
had been her constant stay in
her last years, went to her room,
he got no response, and on enter
ing the room he found that his
mother had quietly passed away.
Apparently she was in fine health,
and only the evening before she
had attended prayer meeting as
h td been her wont for years. Her
devotion to her church was
marked, and the testimony of one
and all is that in her death an
humble Christian has gone to her
reward.
Her earthly pilgrimage was
made in 65 years. She was the
mother of eight children, six of
whom survive: Mr<. J. G. Halli
burton, Marion, N. C.; Mr. Claude
P. Gladden, Charlotte, N. C.; Mr.
Clifton Gladden, Savannah, Ga.;
Mr. John S. Gladden, Longtown,
S. C.; Mrs. A. W. Brown and Mr.
Marvin Gladden, Winnsboro, S. C.
Her remains were interred Fri
day morning in the burial ground
at the Methodist church, the
funeral services being conducted
by her pastor, Rev. J. B. Camp
bell.
The pall-bearers were: Messrs.
J. E. McDonald, W. G. Jordan,
J. N. Center, F. M. Clarke, Jas.
M. Smith, and J. Frank Fooshe.
