anees/ care of explosives, and to
suggest remedies for existing hazaru

hopo of reducing the fire waste, and
to that extent the fire rate.

vention is worth a pound of euro," ap
plies with force to the work In hana.
To accomplish this it must be borne

When-jlhe roll of petit Jurors was
called yesterday morning it wu3 toual
that lt. M. Melton failed to answer,
ho ihftvlng left the state. The follow
ing jurors wore excused by the court:
J. T. Maddox, J. L. Whitfield and H.
J. McGee. Upon order of the court
tho following extra venire of Jurors
was drawn and ordered to appear: D.
P., Sloan, J. T.\ King, C. F. Bole.
L. Reid Jackson; and L. P. Cable.
Tho judge's charge to tho grand
jury Was short and covered murder,
arson, larceny and other charges in
cluded in indictments.
After this Mr. S. M. Wolfe, argued
a case before the court whicii: involv
ed the issuance of a bad check to on
Anderson man. ' A post-dated check
had been- given and them was not
sufficient fonds la the bank to cover
it. Judge Mooro ruled against Mr.
Wolfe's motion.
After a few bills had been returned
by the grand Jtiry, pleas of guilty wore
entered as follows:

were appointed to appear for the ne
gro when-the case- is called.
A true bill haying been returned
against Charl io Donaldson, Freeman
Davis and Lawrence Cowan,- negroes
charged with fae same murder,, and
lt appearing that, they had, no attor
neys. 'Messrs. Br?azeal? and Pear
man were appointed to defend them.
