Congressman Lever spoke of the
advantages of tho community work in
tho mill villages and especially about

people In South Carolina were spend
ing entirely too much money on
canned gooda and Kris was not only
dnmaglng them financially but In
many cases wore injuring their
health. Mr. Lever stated that tho
people of the 3tato of South Carolina
spent between $15,000,000 and $20,
000,000 annually for canned goods and
that a largo amount of this money
could bc kept in thc state if tho peo
ple would only have Meir garden?.
Tho speaker stated that each- indivi
dual could raise enough vegetables on
ono-elghth of an acre to supply an
ordinary family and that there wero
few families in the stnto who could
not get this much land for this pur
pose.
Mr. Lever emphasized .the value of
the community house and stated that
