Officials or the Piedmont & North ern lines and the Southern Power company, who arrived in the city on a special interurban car yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, leave this morning; at 7:30 for Greenville. Fox. mill power engineer of the Southern Power company; C. W. Crosby, irain master und C. S. Allen, traffic man ager. Mr. W. S. Mr. Duko was in this section .having gono to Macon, Ga., where tho remains of Mrs. Duke's mother, Mrs. Bolt, were interred The party left Macon Tuesday and went to Greenwood ove?.- the Seaboard, where they spent the night. Huey came from Greenwood to Anderson yester day. Directly after reaching tho city yesterday afternoon the party left in automobiles for l'ortman Shoals. On tho trip they weiro accompanied by Messrs. H. A. Orr, manager of the Anderson branch of bhc Southern Public Utilities company. Mr. B. B. GoBsett, a director of the Piedmont & Northern and Mayor God ?rey. This was Mr. Duke's first visit to the power plant since lt had been re built and he expressed himself as be ing vtery much pleased. The party returned to the city yes terday afternoon about r> o'clock and aft<>- talking over matters in general in Mr. Orr's ofllco they went to their special car which was on the Biding near tho freight depot. Today will be spent in and around Greenville and on Friday the party will go to Spa rt an bu rp. Yesterday afternoon when court adjourned for the day the case of the state versus Oscar Corley was being tried. The negro, it will be remem bered, ls charged willi shooting into the house of Phate Sherard, a negro at Iva Borne few days ago. The ne gro did not employ a lawyer and put up his own defense, ile had his iiucstions which toe asked the wit nesses all written off and many times the questions or their answers evok ed unit'!' laughter. When 6:30 o'clock came all of the state's witnesses and M excent one of the defense had been examined. This other witness was not present and if .ie is not there when court convenes thiB morning, the case will go to the Jury. Clyde Develin Cu ill.v. Clyde Develin, the negro charged with assault and battery with? intent to kill, was tried yesterday and the L-ase occupied the attention of the :ourt for the greater part of the day. Yesterday afternoon about F? o'clock .he Jury rendered a verdict of guilty, it will be remembered that Develin was charged with making a murder )us assault on Mr. Frank Dlvver at Mortimer Sloan's coal yard.
