CHA^E PROPOSER.
Decbaal Coinage S***? AgsJa Ad
vocated fer Brftala.
London. Aug.. 13-(Associated Press j
Corieapondencj?.)-Proposala to es-*.'
tabllah. a decimal system ot coinage i,
In Great Britain are again receiving
attention m the newspapers.' The
latest advocates ara soldiers return
ing from Prance, who have .become, j
accustomed to the decimal system in
use there, and - hate quickly recog
nized Ita advantages..
The proposal most generally en
dorsed in England is that the farth
ing be made the basis ot tbe new
system. There ls already a coln of
this denomination in use in England, I
Ita natue being onc-fou.th of a pen
ny, or about half ot an American I
cent. It ls proposed to. make one
hundred farthings equal to one floria-'
(the common two-shilling piece of j
English coinage, ?quivalent to 50
cents American.) This Involves only I
a tr fling change from the present?
system, whereby 96 farthings, make j
one florin.
Under the proposed system tba
units of money would be:
100 farthings make one floria.
IO florins make one pound.
. The shilling would thus become an
intermediate coln, representing 50
farthings, and the slx-penca a simitar j
intermediate coin, representing 20 j
farthings.

Panam, AUK 9.-Extraordinary
effort? are being made by the Ameri

break up the Increasing "white-slave"
trade In Central America.
The traffic has increased because ot
the war in Europe and the fact that a
large number of American soldiers
are stationed on the Canal Zone with
in a short distance from each of the
two Panama towns of Colon and Pana
ma. Hqth of the nlgbt-Ufo districts
of these cities have been prep tl y ex

restricted areas. '
It Is difficult far. the traffickers to
Ming girls Into tho Canal Zone be
cause of the strict laws and the vigi

however, ls not therese .In the repub

It bas been learned that a central
