siding elder of the Rock Hill district
of the Upper South Carolina Meth
odist conference. Death occurred
Sunday morning and was due to an
attack of pneumonia. Intormcnt was
made in Kock Hill yesterday morning
at ll o'clock.
Mir. FJ. E. Holroyd of this city,
formerly enrnloyed with thc Farmers
and Merchants bank of this city, but
who recently accepted a position with
tho Andereon Phosphate and Oil
company as chief statistician, was a
son of thc Rev. Holroyd and he wan
callod "to Rock Hill a few days ORO
because of the illness of his father.
Mr. Holroyd' was pastor of the Wil
liamston and Helton circuit from 1905
to 1908 and is widely known in this
county. He was born in .Mercer coun
ty. Wost Virginia. May 23, 1863. As
Indicated by thc name, he is of Eng
lish decent, his father coming direct
ly from England to this country.
In early childhood he had nccess to
thc usual common schools of the
community, of which he made good
\\BC. He was then placed in tho
school at Athens, West Virginia,
wher? ho received a thorough train
ing. After leaving school, Brother
Holroyd- taught for quite a whllo,
giving great satisfaction to lils pat
rons.
On June 30, 1886, he was married
to Miss Lula E. Wiggins, daughter of
Rev. Casper F. Wiggins who was
for many years an honored member
of the South Carolina conference. Ot
this union seven boys have been
born-Emory, Raymond, CharlcB Eu
gene, William Casper, Lemuel Grier,
George Raul and Francis Lander.
Brother Holroyd was admitted on
trial into thc South Carolina con
ference in December, 1887; with Allen
B. Earle, Wesley E. 'Barre, James W
Kllgo, Robt. A. Yongue, Samuel T
Blackman, J. P., Attaway, W. L. Walt
and James E. Mahaffcy.
He was ordained deacon by H i shop
J. C. Keener, at Cemdcn, November
1689, and . was ordained Elder by
Bishop J. C. Cranberry, at Darling
ton, December, 1891.'

bers of the Free Masons of the South

this year by the Masons' Annuity, an
organisation devoted to tho relief of I

shows a total paid to beneficiaries of
1656,562 to Juno 30 last. Tho assets
at the end of the fiscal year were j
$857,813, an increase over last year's
assets of $92,000,

Thc building will bo a wooden struc
ture and for tho present will be only
one story, with a basement in which

Dr. Urcedtn stated yesterday that
he thought Anderson needed a private
hospital '.ike the kind ho was going
to have built. During 'ils recent Mp
wost Dr. Drcedln Inspected clinics in
several of thc larger cities and some
ideas of these will be carried out in
thc new building. It was flated that
the name of the new hospital would
bo St. Mary's and that Mrs. ll reed in
would be in charge and all diets will
be prepared' under her supervision.

William Cleland Drowned on
Wednesday and Body Found

The body or William deland, the
little 10 years old son of Mr. II. P.
Cleland, who was employed on the
overhead bridge on North Main street
hu t winter, was found in thc.Savannah
Uiver Friday afternoon by a party
of fishermen from Hartwell. Thc
little/ boy waB drowned on Wednesday
afternoon at Madison on the Tugaloo
river while ho was wading with three
other little boys.
From tho information received Cle
land and the other boys were in thc
habit of going to the flat landing at
the river and wading, holding on to
the ropes that were placed around
the place. Wednesday afternoon de
land's strength gave out and he went
nndcr tho water. One ot his play
mates went to his rescue and suc
ceeded In getting Cleland to a place
where he thought he could wade out,
but looking around in a minute, he
saw his body floating down stream.
Searching parties had been look
ing for tho body for tho past four
or five days but all their efforts to
locate the body failed.
The place where tho body was
found by the fishermen was about
20 miles below where tho drowning
.occurred.

W. Lewis Bolt of this city and is well
