Mrs. Emma Taylor, relict of the
late William Taylor, died at the home
of her daughter, Mrs. Hrown in
Hartwell, Ga., yesterday afternoon.
Tho body will be brought to Ander
son Sunday afternoon and Interment
will be made in the First Presby
terian church yard.
MrB. Taylor formerly lived in An
derson on Greenville street and is
well remembered here. M**. Lucy
Cater and Mrs. Lizzie Cater of this
:ity are her sister-in-laws. Until re
cently Mrs. Taylor had made thc city

laughter, Mrs. Brown went to New

Farewell Service? for Missionary

Walhalla: July 22.-There was a
meeting on Monday at the eourt house
which was attended by quite a num
ber of persons from different sections
of the county who are Interested in
the cause of temperance. A perma
nent organization was perfected, and
committees were appointed through
out every section of the county. Rev.
J. lt. Harley, Spartanburg was ex
pected to be present, but owing to
other important duties he was un
able to be on hand.
The Young Men's League, whose
membership is made up by members
of the various churches of the town,
and others who are interested In the
religious welfare of the community,
will hold a farewell service compli
mentary to t)ae Rev. .Marion li.
Stokes, at the 'Baptist church Thurs
day evening at 8:30. A number of
short addresses will be delivered by
different members of the league. Re
freshments will be served. Rev. Mr.
Stokes, and bis family, will leave on
Saturday morning for For?a, after
having spent more than a year here
and in other parts o fthe state.
Large numbers of people from Wal
halla will visit the Oconee County
Farmers' chautauqua, at Seneca, which
opens Thursday morning at 10 o'clock.
The ladies of the civic league have
formed the West View Cemetery **s
Boclation, and will soon begin work
to beautify the cemetery. .

Mrs. S. M. Uyars was taken Ul on
Thursday afternoon and was taken to
the Anderson county hospital, where
an operation waa ' performed yester
day afternoon. Her condition was re*
ported much Improved last night.

street yesterday, the work beginning
at Maxwell avenue and being contin
ued almost to Webb street. Every
thing was geing fine at tho asphalt
plant yesterday and the work was
carried on with much haste.
The work of placing the concrete
base on McDuffie street is going right
ahead. The work bas nearly reach
ed Diver street and good progress is
being made.
This work will be continued on Mc
Duffie street to Greenville street and
the force will not be moved to Main
street as was stated a few days ago.
When the force reaches Benson
street, that part ot McDuflie street
