AD WRITING CONTEST
GAINS IN POPULARITY
Head of North Anderson Devel
opment Co., Heartily En
dorses Plan.
Mr. Jobi Linley, the live-wire
I val Estate agent joined the ranks
of the Amateur Ad Writers contest for
merchants and business tuen yester
terday, saying: "I consider this a
great advertising stunt, one thal will
bring one's project or line before
he people from an entirely differ- !
.nt angle." And Mr. Unley ls exact l> I
right about lt. too.
When one can Interest the buyer
sufficiently in one's proposition to
write an ad for lt. he lias gotten that
particular person into u very rescs
llve attitude toward the proposition or
tile house or firm back of lt.
On t!ie other hand-the business
which la conducted on sucli a plane
that the proprietor invites the public
behind the scenes as lt were (to write
uds for tile business? it is n pretty
safe bet that that business is con
ducted in such u manner that there
ls nothing for them to be ashamed of,
nor ls there anything that they wish
to Iiitie Lom their customers
To sum it all up-selling any kind
of merchandise through, or by the aid
of such Intimate relationship between
buyer and seller is cooperation lu the
very highest sense, and not the con
quest of the buyer by the seller when
he lias palmed off an Inferior article
at a fictitious price.
One lady, who is a Bridge Whist
enthusiast was heard to say yester
day that she was writing ads for sev*
eral of the different merchants who
were entered In the Amateur Ad
Writers contest, and that she was en
joying tlie contest immensely; that she
found lt Intensely Interesting and thc
work very, fascinating; and that if
she won either of the prizes, she was
going to turn the money over to her
church society.
A merchant said yesterday that he
had had quite a few Inquiries about
what he wanted advertised, and that
he had told them in detail, and that
ho was looking forward with a great
deal of anticipation to Friday to see
what kind of ads they would bring
him.
As most everyone likes a contest,
it apper.rs that this contest offers
enough amusement and zest to arouse
the interest of the most blase, because
it is a battle of wits where all en
trants are about equal in ability, and
there is sufficient award to make it
worth while to try for. If you have
not yet begun, why not begin at once?
There are enough different Unes to
suit every one; and herewith is given
enough information to enable you to
write several ads.

priate for the occasion. He will tell
