Its existence was made possible by the liberality of the citizens cf Spartanburg. yy The association has rented a home ites !ln(1 has equipped it thorougly for orj- the work. Included in this furniture is the nec ^ e.ssary bedding, linen, and towels for * . the sleeping rot ins, and also towels for the baths. In addition, the associate n has supplied the bath rooms wit.i shower fixtures, tub, and conveniences, and the gymnasium with a full complement ot apparatus. ..... A handsome piano, given to the assceiaticn by Mrs. Virginia Cannon lias proved very useful in the soeial r[( and religions meetings. Y \ The resources of the association 111 have consisted of the donations received, the rent from the dormitories and the fees from the members, and all of this has been spent in equipment and expenses as outlined. The work is three-fold?spiritual, mental and physical?and they rank in importance in the order named. The first year,s report of the worl> issued January 1, 190a, shows that thirty-one gospel meetings had been held, with a total attendance cf 5,326 >> men, an average cf 172. Bible classes have been conducted, in which eleven lectures have been given to an average audience of BO men, or a total attendance of 330. A night school has been organized which has enrolled men from 45 \cars cf age down, representing all occupations, and all anxious to avail themselves of the opportunity for soli improvement. The attendance cf the school has 1 e:n irregular on the part of some pupils, and a number have dropped ( ut. but ten (f twelve men are now rogularh attending the school. lOnglish. arithmetic, bookkeeping and penmanship tire here taught by some ( I the best teachers in the city.
