The en tertainment consisted of singing, piano and violin music and recitations. ?Miss Julia Simpson is again in charge of the millinery department of the Heath Banking & Mercantile Co., with Miss Maggie Pardue as her assistant. They have been at work several days opening up millinery stock and preparing for their usual spring opening which will occur later. ?The Lancaster Mercantile Go's, new milliner, Miss Lydia Cappedge, of Wadesboro, N. C , reached here last week and is busily engaged opening up their big stock of millinery goods and arranging for the usual spring opening, date of which will be announced later. ?From the Rock Hill Record ^ t we learn that Andrew Carnegie has notified President Johnson of Winthrop College that he i will give $20,000 for a school library at that institution, and i .. that as all the conditions having been complied with, the Carnegie Library on the campus is assured. The receipts at the door? of ,ho Auditorium of the graded ichool building netted the sum )f $62.55. Knowing that the purpose of this entertainment s for the establishment of a mblic library in Lancaster, we Link Mrs. Jones and Mrs. 'erry (to whom the success of his entertainment is due) do icrve lots of credit. Special to the State. Lancaster, March 12.?On March 2nd the Cranford Hook club was delightfully entertained by Miss Una Payseur. The literary feature consisted of quotations from humorous writers, current events by Mrs, J. T. Thomasson, American humorists by the club. Refreshments were served at the close of the literary programme. The Ladies' Card club met Thursday afternoon with Mrs, Robt. 1j. Crawford. Progressive whist was played, the prize being won by Miss Edith Stew art a lovely weduewood base. The refreshments were delightful, score cards dainty, pansies being the design.
