Squier died in this place on Saturday morning, after a lingering illness, from consumption. She was a Miss Davidson, a native of Charlotto,.N. C., but had resided almost continuously since her marriage, eight years ago, in Winnsboro. She had made many friends, who sympathize with lier husband in his deep bereavement. La Due sent to South Carolina for distribution was three. They wvere turned over to Thos. S. Brice, Esq., by Master Lipscomb, of the State Grange, and by him given to Mr. D. R. Elkin, of Alston. Mrs. WV. R. Robertson received several from Washington direct. Colonel Rion has had a tea plant growving in his garden for years. ______ The Condition of Fairfild. The county is now froo from all debt, except for schools, and will carry forward at least fivo hundred dollars from 1876 to 1877. The school claims outstanding, that will not be paid, are estimated at only about one thousand dollars. While the condition of the people in the county is distressing, the condition of the county treasury is very gratifying, and compares favorably with that of any other county. SCHOOL NOTICE. T HERE will bo an examination of colored applicants for positions as teachers on the ftrst Friday in January, and of white applicants on the first Saturday and also on the second Satur day in January. The examination will bo held in the Mission School houso, be ginning at 10, a. in. The examination will )o partly written, partly oral, on geography, ortho-raphy, reading, writ lmg, English grammar, history of the Unitei States, and for the first grade, algebra.
