Fairfield was, as usual, well represented. The prize for the best drilling was awarded to the Governor's Guard, of Columbia -a fine body of men commanded by Capt. Hugh S. Thompson. We are requested to state tha the ladies of Ridgeway will give a hot dinner and supper on next Tuesday, for the purpose of procuring a stand of company col, ore for the Hampton Rifle Guard. The ladies and gentlemen of Winns boro are cordially invited to be present. We trust there will be a full turnout at this enter tainment. The Hampton Rifle Guard is a fine body of men, and deserves the encouragement of the whole people o: Fairfield. THE HoOK AND LADDER COMPANY. This organization, coiposod of colored men, was out on parado on Thursday afternoon, un lor com mand of President Jno. ). Smar. As usual the apparatus was.3 in ino condition, and the men were all neatly dressed in their uniforms of blue shirts and black pants. We were much pleased to observe the full turnout on Thursday, do spite the unfavorable weather. The interest thus shown by the col. ored firemen in their orgainizatin is worthy of great praise. Thbough, happily for the town, their services are seldom needed, yet, appreciating the necessity for constant readiness and constant discipline, the officers and members of the Hook an d Lad der Company continuo to keep their organization up to the highest standard. We are sure they wvill do good work whenever called , and in their efforts to make themselvea efficient firemen they have the best wishes of all good citizens. Now Grocorios.
