Some of them will he entirely through with the curing barns by the end of this week, if not before. * B. R. Casque brought a total of 105 watermelons here for sale one day last weok. Those melons averaged about thirty-five pounds each and were sold by the grower to B. T. Hyman, the groceryman on 3rd Avenue. It took two two-horse wagons and four mules to haul this fine lot of melons to the market. ? * * Jack Watts spent some time here last Saturday and stated that lie had ' a fine tobacco crop but had not yet placed any of the product on the markets either here or elsewhere. He is giving his crop close attention and expects to produce a fine grade after the first pickings. He had cured four barns 1 p to the dr.v thnt he was here. Homer Dew, son of Mrs. A. R. Watts of Willow Branch, left here for his position that he is holding with the Vavassa Fertilizer Works, near Wilmington, N. C., last Saturday morning, after spending several days with his mother in the Country. His children arrived here the same day to spend some time with their grandmother. * The Conway-Marion bus has not been run on the line for some time Owing to a break down of the machine about one month ago, it has been laid off the service ever since and at last accounts the machine had not been repaired. The travel between Conway and Marion has been taken care of, however, by Jessie Anderson, with a Dodge touring car and Dave Bruton with a Buick six. These cars have been making? the trips for. some time and the travel has been handled in what appears to be an efficient manner. o /J/J/? The rains of last week had their effect upon the new surface of parts of roads near Conway and this lasted for a few days until the road hands and machinery could take care of the situation. Stanley Allen was in Conway last week and stated that he had sold his first curings of tobacco for eighteen cent *. *'r', h: s several acres which he hopes will turn him out a fair averoge price when his entire crop is sold. ***** The result of the biggest tobacco crop this section has ever seen will bo a big increase in business and general prosperity from now until the spring of 1924. Good luck at that time with the strawberry crop will mean a continuation of good times throughout this section. Conway was alive at an early hour last Wednesday morn in p. The occasion was the opening- sales at all of the independent warehouses of Conway. The farmers had been advised to bring only parts of their crop, and not overload the warehouses to begin with, and in the mean time to keep their product in good condition and place it on the floors after the market had rotten steady. , * * * * * Tobacco began coming in at an farly hour last Wednesday morning'' for the Conway warehouses. Some of it came in on motor trucks, most of it in wagons drawn by mules. Most of it, from the very first, showed better condition than in former years. It was nicely arranged in graded hand/uls of leaves.
