Lexington and Community Will Give a Glorious Welcome to All. ' j i \ Governor Cooper has a-copied an i Inviation to itiako an address at the] ' Welcome Home Picnic to be given by;, the citizens of Lexington and vicinity to the returned soldiers and sailors on! the afternoon o' July 24tn from six to; nine o'clock at George's pond near Lexington. The engagement was made thru the "War Camp Community Service who: have also secured a band from Camp;1 Jackson for the occasion conditioned; on its not having been demobilized ; prior to that time. Music is always ait welcome addition to a pic-nic anuh > i the Camp Jackson band is a very ef -; 1 ficient organization and will be a ( pleasing portion to the picnic pro i gram. j \ "Where it has not already been done' the War Camp Community Service is : I endeavoring to organize the counties c of the State for the purpose of wel j : 4 coming the boys homc^ and where it] is not practicable to put on a county! function the county is subdivided in s ' I v to towships or school districts and.. some form cf welcome is planned for each unit so organized. It has be7-'" decided by the local committee thai t in as much as this is a large county. r and the several towns would probab , ly prefer having individual affairs^ sub county organizations would be! formed as seemed most convenient , ' ? and a series of welcomes would be; extended throughout the county.! * j There are possibly some towns in j ^ - I t the county that have already extend J 1 ed their welcome to their returned 11 | r_ boys but the organization is to con 11 * j tinue until the whole county . . i f is covered. 1 j ~ This picnic at George's Pond is rarj v ticularly planned for Lexington and!3' vicinity^ and a list of the names ot j the men who live on the rural routes ja diverging from Lexington has been ^ 1 compiled as a basis for the invitations j i: but those who live near Lexington and! e whose mail comes from a different a postoffice are just as cordially invited and urged to participate in the q exercises as tho they received individ- f ^ ' ual invitations. It must be realized 11] that in the absence of any authorita- \ j . tive data as to the exact number of:f men who have returned their names! t i and addresses^ some shall in all pro-iv bability bt left off the invitation list^ j. ' l but this will occur only thru madver-j j. tenee and every returned soldier in!, > i i the county and particularly those; who live in or near Lexington or wno get their mail from this postofSce are 9 ci "hereby invited and urged to be present at the exercises at George's Pond at the time abo\ e mentioned with the promise from the committee thot the! * affair wil be made as short and snap-j 1 ^ py and interesting as the circumstan- j (; c*s permit. Relatives of the returned soldiers v and citizens of .Lexington and vicinity v in general are cordially invited to! ' come and bring baskets well-filled!<] with just such things as they alone ! ! . know will tickle the palates of the heroes. After much discussion in! i committee^ it has been decided! f that this is the form of welcome that the bovs will most enjoy and "f, > ... ' i course^ since it is their picnic we want, to do those things that will pleasej them most. There will be lemonade i ' ! iced-tea bottled drinks (soft)^ and;j other things to supplement the la\ ish r tVirjt chnnip rpsnlt from the 1 emptying of the baskets and nothing |c will be spared to make the boys be-!" b'eve that the folks at home are really! c i glad to have them back again. a It is hoped that no soldier will al- j low anvthirvr : revent his attending; i I tms picnic as it is meant as a pa >?ic r recognition of the' service they haver, rendered and they shoe.hi be there < to receive this simple expression of,: gratitude from the folks who mad * sacrifices in order that they might :: respond to the call of duty. k i t _ | K.\yi'M.\> jx Wo h;>? jw?t i ncv : of, ^ Kostman Kodaks^ all sizes; the* 1 -st { Kodaks on the market ^ rnv on i.;-;. -; I a"e I'iarht Come in and see tin : 1 HARM-\\ MtrcI LOCALS AND PERSONALS1 ' Mrs. J. \V. l>ykc are!
